My name is Andrew Bender-I live over on Wentworth Place. I work with a fire and water mitigation company and I thought that I might pass on some info to other community members.
In the event that your house should ever flood, catch on fire, have a tree fall on it,toilet overflow, washer overflow, roof leak etc.(anything that would require securing the property from further damage) or be in any sort of peril you are required by your insurance company to make a reasonable attempt to secure the property and stop the source of damage. YOU DO NOT NEED TO GET ESTIMATES TO BEGIN THIS TYPE OF WORK...an adjuster or agent will get involved AFTER the property has been secured.
I show up to a lot of homes and speak with a lot of insurance agents/adjusters who have homeowners' that held off on getting this sort of work done because they thought that they had to get multiple estimates to begin the drying/emergency mitigation process in their home. The homeowner often explains that they didn't want to get stuck with the bill if they didn't have competing estimates for the insurance company.
Today I had a homeowner who held off on calling the insurance company for almost 2 weeks(toilet overflow that covered 1600SQ.FT of hardwood floors-all floors and subfloor will have to be removed)-a LOT of secondary damage and mold will result from this and the homeowner runs a chance of the ''peril'' not being covered. The adjuster explained that he will be passing this claim to his supervisor for approval due to the fact that the proper procedure was not followed as outlined in the policy.
If they would have called their agent-the agent would have explained that this needed to be dried out immediately to stop further damage.
Like I said-I work for a company that specializes in this type of work and would certainly appreciate any additional business. It is not however the reason WHY I made this posting.
There are also other very reputable companies who specialize in this type of work as well and I'm sure would also appreciate your business. They are Service Pro and AdvantaClean just as an FYI and we all use the same methods and equipment so one company is not necessarily better than another.
If you should ever have a problem of this nature please do not hesitate to call-I would be more than happy to help.
Thanks
Andy Bender
