Hi Everyone: The young man who has been in the The company and persons selling magazines has been identified. His name is Brandon Walker and he is from Texas. He works for a company called Pinnacle Sales which employs sales people to travel from state to state selling magazines. Walker and several other individuals from TX are being dropped off in neighborhoods in Charlotte to sell magazine subscriptions. Pinnacle Sales has contracted with another company, World Wide Circulation, to distribute the magazine.
World Wide Circulation was contacted yesterday morning and confirmed that Walker works for Pinnacle Sales. They said they provide sales people with names of organizations (Hospitals etc.) that sales people can recommend the subscriptions be sent to, if a homeowner says they do not want the magazines. A complaint was filed with them because of Walker?’s aggressive and deceitful sales practices.
Walker does not attend Duke University, his mother is not a Doctor at Levine Children?’s Hospital, neither he nor any member of his family live in Charlotte, and he is not trying to earn money to travel, go to school abroad, or help his sick mother.
What he is doing may be immoral, but it is not illegal. If he comes to your door you should politely, but firmly, tell him you do not want to purchase any magazines. If he persists and refuses to leave, call 9-1-1 and do not open your door.
Additionally several homeowners said they will no longer answer their door to strangers. While I understand the reasoning behind that, it would be more prudent to acknowledge the person without opening your door, in case the stranger is checking to see if someone is home before attempting to commit a crime
