Too picky?

Through this forum I have learned the process involved in requesting street lights be installed. However-How do we go about getting the more ''decorative'' street lights that you see in other communities around Charlotte.
Standard and Decorative

They cost hundreds of dollars and we must pay for them ourselves. I agree they do look great. I like the new ones added up along South at the major intersections. I wish they had taken the decorative style down Tyvola our direction a bit more. The basic street lights are all the city offers to install without charging the community. This falls under a federal program that pays for the installation and the operation of the lights. The city pays a fee under this program

Caution should be used in selecting decorative lighting. Since they are mounted at 12' instead of the 25' for standard light, lighting patterns may not provide full coverage of a street with dark spots present. Further, unlike standard fixtures which focus light on the roadway, the most common decorative fixtures shine omni-directional, which some may find objectionable.

Decorative lights are not available on thoroughfares or collector streets.
