The house on the corner of Wedgewood & Seneca was burglarized this morning.
The housekeeper who was working at a home on Murrayhill noticed a suspicious
car on Murrayhill and called me about the fact that it had come slowly down
Murrayhill, then backed into the driveway of subject house. While we were
talking, she saw the men going to the back door of the house, knocking and
listening, then breaking the door open. She then called 911 to report the
situation at about 9:20; I walked outside and saw the car - a dark colored
sedan, looking very similar to a Mercury or Lincoln (squared off back end,
rather than an aerodynamic style). The man I saw was dark skinned, had a
dark jacket and lighter colored long pants. Not certain if there was more
than 1 man. The robber(s) were in the house for at least 10 minutes; when
the police had not arrived, I called 911 and gave a second report. About 5
minutes after that, the robber(s) got in the car and drove down Murrayhill
toward Lamont. Another neighbor left in his car in an attempt to get a
license number, but was not successful. About 5 minutes after that, I saw a
police car come speeding down Murrayhill, turning left on Wedgewood (I
assume the police were trying to search for the car).
I spoke with the young men, Jonathan and Bryan, this afternoon around 2PM.
They have lived in this house for 2 years. Their computer and related
hardware and software, a watch collection and a vintage garment bag were
stolen.
Please pass this email along to any other neighbors whose email address you
have. You'll notice that I have copied Marty Doss who is the President of
the Madison Park Neighborhood Association. I plan to distribute hard copies
of this message tomorrow (along this 5700/5800 block of Murrayhill).
I'm also looking into having an alarm system installed in my house.
