Don't forget to come out to Fairbanks Road 8/5/08 for our 4th annual National Night Out.  The area is between ValleyForge Road and Wedgewood Drive on Fairbanks.

The fun starts at 6 PM and goes until 9 PM.

This is the perfect opportunity to meet your police and neighbors at this totally free old fashion block party.

We will have attractions for all ages at this years event.

Our entertainment stage area will feature three different acts for your enjoyment.

You will also find ice cream, hot dogs, cotton candy, lemonade(s), and ice cold watermelon.

Madison Park HOA NNO 8/5/2008

  Tuesday August 5, 2008 will mark the 25^th Annual National Night Out.  This event was designed to:

• Heighten crime and drug awareness;
• Increase participation in anti crime programs such as community watch;
• Improve the relationship between the police and neighborhoods; and
• Send a message to criminal that neighborhoods are organized and willing to fight back against crime. 

  The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department encourages neighborhoods to come together and have a social event such as a block party or cookout.  The Madison Park Neighborhood had a block party for this event in 2007.  There were events at the block party for folks of every age group to participate in.  The Madison Park Neighborhood National Night Out event was one of the best coordinated and well attended in Charlotte.  Several Police Officers and Firefighters attended as well as local politicians.  The neighborhood residents had a chance to get to know the people who service their neighborhood better.  After this event neighborhood participation at the Madison Park Community Meetings increased.

Dear Grant Selection Committee:

I am writing to support Marty Doss' National Night Out Grant Application for his work in putting together and managing a highly successful National Night Out celebration for his neighborhood, Madison Park.  Marty has worked hard to make this unique, nationwide crime, drug and violence prevention program event successful.  He has managed to reach out and involve hundreds of his neighbors who attend this event.  He has recruited many volunteers who have donated hundreds of volunteer hours for this cause that brings community of all ages together and has been a success since he first began this free event years ago. 

National Night Out provides a unique opportunity for neighborhoods in Charlotte to join forces with thousands of other communities across the country in promoting cooperative police-community crime prevention efforts.  Marty takes this event to heart and each year Madison Park's National Night Out program continues to draws more attendees and reach new heights, as was the case in 2007. 

I am proud to support Marty's work, and I have attended this event for the past two years.  I ask that you give his application your highest consideration.
