The sidewalks go on (and on... and on) ... This time read about our fair city politicos trip down Woodlawn. (March 24) You will see it ALL happen. It will be interesting to see if they keep the same standards on Woodlawn that they are shoving down our throats and into our front doors.

What I find most strange about all this sidewalk talk is directly under the Tyvola (
Grover Street) Light Rail Station.  Everyday I am guessing hundreds of people come off the trains and find NO complete sidewalks on either side of Grover Street over to South Blvd. to walk on.  I have seen people with walkers, wheel chairs, and ladies pushing strollers. and just regular pedestrians all forced to walk in the street.

On the Tire Kingdom side of the street the sidewalk ends at the side parking entrance of Tire Kingdom.    I have been told the sidewalk does not cross the railroad tracks due to right a way issues.   Why Issues?  They paved a path to the parking lot for Tyvola light rail parking directly off South Blvd. crossing the tracks on one side of the street.   On the opposite side of the street the sidewalk abruptly ends on Grover Street up near South.  Why because of the bank I am told and right a way issues on the bank side.

The oddest thing of all is the sidewalk that is there is built to the curb and there is zero planting strip.  How can this be?????  It is new sidewalk built in the last 2 years.

Those are the questions that I think those that live on Murrayhill, Woodlawn and Park Road with concerns about planting strips need to be taking pictures of and demand CDOT ...Vivian Coleman and the rest of the City specifically answer.

Also take the walk down Old Pineville Road and just prior to Tyvola you have an entire section of sidewalk missing!  WHY????? It has been this way for months.

Cross the Rail Road tracks on Tyvola and there use to be a dirt hole on both sides.  I did complain and some gravel was added.  Why is there NO pavement CDOT?

Also the City needs to spend some money putting a cross walk flashing light crossing at Grover and South.  Many of the pedestrians are jay walking to cross.  The city did a cut through in the median but never marked the lanes.  I assume due to the fact the state would not allow a traffic light saying it was too close to the Tyvola traffic light.

With no traffic light Grover street could of been made two lanes with no turn lane on the East side of the track in order to build a sidewalk in a very busy area.   That gained spaced could of been used for sidewalks to be completed on both sides of the streets.

That said not sure why there is no right a way for the City to take or use on Grover.

Many things don't add up with CDOT and Sidewalks.

Thanks for sharing the Woodlawn blogspot.  I missed that one.

Looks like the next day there was a new version of this story or shall we say a retrofit!

Just noticed it online today.

I sent a photo spread to City on the light rail station at Grover Street with its missing sidewalks, curb side sidewalks, and the missing walks over the tracks last week.  Also there is no crosswalk or flashing light to get people across busy South.  No complete sidewalk on either side of Grover Street which is a  busy area now due to the Tyvola Light Rail Stop/Station.   Orgininal plans as some might know from our monthly meeting minutes called for a traffic light at Grover and South Blvd.  The State DOT stopped that from happening, but why the Sidewalks were never completed is an odd one to me.

Anyway this just came...so I thought I would share it.  Maybe just maybe they will fix this busy pedestrian area.  I am all for sidewalks in the neighborhoods ...but when they have busy places like this, and part of the land is city owned land ...and lots of feet they need to correct it.

I do think they need to explain to the residential areas why they are so set on planting strips and then turn around and not put them on their own property along much busier streets than Murrayhill and other neighborhood streets.

Today when I got off a train at 3:00 pm 20 people were left to walk in the road with no sidewalk on Grover Street.

This response was sent to various CDOT officals, CATS, and City Leaders:

All,
CDOT will review this request and see what options that to connect the sidewalk gaps.  We will also investigate the signal request at Grover and South.
Please contact me if you have further questions. Thank you.
