Lawn

Posted in: Madison Park

Thanks to the person that enjoys calling into the city for lawns.  I can not understand why someone would not stop and ask a neighbor if something is wrong - or why the lawn is not trimmed - or can they help before contacting the city.

If the person would spend more time asking about their neighbor they would find out -- that they are dealing with -- their wife just being diagnosed with Cancer last month, dealing with a recent hospital stay, dealing with the husband losing his job, and dealing with someone stealing the lawn mower out of the backyard.....

All of these have happened within the last 4 weeks so I doubt the lawn being cut is the biggest issue these people are facing right now.  Yes everyone likes a trimmed and cut yard but sometimes there are reasons that prevent this from happening.  Please use more common sense and courtesy when dealing with these things.  Not to mention the money and resources it requires the city!

I can not believe this.  I wholehardely agree.  Before calling the city wouldn't it be nice and neighborly to find out what is going on with your neighbor first.  Offer to cut it for them if they can't.  What is wrong with people these days!!!!!  And to the person dealing with so much heartache right now you are in my prayers.

There are times that I've been unable to cut my own yard.  The lawnmower breaks down, my daughter is in the hospital......you never know what your neighbors are going through till you ask.

SHAME ON YOU!!!!

Another resident living on Wedgewood has reported his lawnmower was stolen this past Friday afternoon at tonight's HOA meeting.   This is two recent thefts of lawn mowers in our community.

Please make sure you secure you lawn mowers.

Hopefully as other posters have stated if you know of situations where your immediate neighbors need a helping hand with things like their grass cutting, or something else you might assist them with you will give them a helping hand if you are able.  Please Do Help Your Neighbors if you have the opportunity.

I know after I had heart surgery a few years ago I greatly appreciated the fact my neighbor cut my lawn when they cut their lawn even without me asking.   I am actually paying it forward now to someone else by cutting their lawn while they are on an extended vacation out of the country.   I knew their lawn would need to be cut and I offered to keep it maintained for them as I have done for others so they would not have someone report their lawn.  Plus I didn't want their lawn to draw any unwanted attention to their home which is normally perfectly maintained.

I don't know who or where this family lives, or the circumstances of this complaint, but Code Enforcement is in our community weekly and Kirk Young the inspector does make field observances from time to time which results in open complaints.   Not all calls are generated by neighbors calling on their neighbors.   Not saying this was the case this time...but the inspectors observations sometimes result in complaints against a resident, especially if the grass is approaching 12 inches or more.  Kirk our inspector is very proactive.

In most cases Kirk just sends out a notice the lawn needs to be cut within a certain number of  days.  If not the city can contract the job out and cut the lawn.  However this is done very rarely.   I think the City can only contract a property three times in a growing season for cutting.  Of course a resident does not want this to happen because the charges are high that the residents will be stuck with from the City.

I am Sorry this family is having so many problems.  I hope some of their neighbors are at least helping them out going forward so they don't have the stress of any more complaints.  I agree they have more than enough to deal with at this time.

Hopefully better days are ahead for them all!

Having gone through this I can tell you that most of the neighbors in this area are decent, however there are a select few who are exactly the kind of people who behave this way and worse.  I am sorry for this family to have been treated this way and truly hope their difficulties will resolve positively.

That said, yes, Code Enforcement "can" write things up themselves however, if you or anyone else would like to know for sure or keep track of complaints for your street or any other street go to the following link and type a street name in the appropriate box.  You will see complaints and resolutions for all addresses on that street.

If you should have some spare time go and type in a few different streets and read the complaints posted.  That is all I have to say on this matter.
