Extension master gardeners in Mecklenburg County are offering free gardening classes once a month this fall and winter. The first class is “How to Get the Lawn Your Neighbors Will Envy,” at 7-8:30 p.m. Sept. 24 at Marion Diehl Recreation Center, 2219 Tyvola Road.   • How to Get the Lawn Your Neighbors Will Envy:  September 24, 2009 Thursday, 7 p.m. at Marion Diehl Recreation Center, 2219 Tyvola Rd. Learn more about regular maintenance, smart watering and how much fertilizer healthy lawns really need.   • Designing Outdoor Spaces that Work: October 13, 2009 Tuesday, 7 p.m. at Tom Sykes Recreation Center, 1501 Euclid Ave. Understand different garden styles and use of focal points. Learn how to blend color, texture and form in your outdoor living spaces. You will find that it’s easy to create outdoor ‘rooms’ that serve different functions or suit different moods.
