Why are there pink flags in my yard?

Posted in: Madison Park

Why are there pink flags in every yard along Wedgewood Dr., 10 ft.  from the curb?  There aren't putting a sidewalk there are they?

There is sidewalks coming to one section of Wedgewood around August of 2010.  That is the stretch between Seneca Place that runs along the back of the school up to Murrayhill.  That goes in with the Murrayhill sidewalk project that will bring a sidewalk on the North side of  Murrayhill from E. Woodlawn down to Lamont.  .

Residents in that area were given details on this last year and there was a public meeting held in the community.

Surveys/studies were done last year on the side of the street to use for the project.   On Wedgewood the new sidewalk will only be on the West side of the street that backs up to the Schools back entrance.

You don't say where exactly you live (block number) on Wedgewood?

That said Pink Flags are for Temp Survey marking.  There is no storm water projects listed on the Charmeck Web site under storm water services.

Could be some type of utility project coming up.  311 did not have anything in their system that noted a project.

Being only 10 feet off the curb puts whatever the project in the public right a way which is 11 feet off the curb.

If we hear or find out we will post on this discussion the answer.  I know some cable lines were laid along Tyvola recently and the installers marked the land with flags before digging and tunneling under the ground.

I have also seen survey companies doing surveys for property owners sometimes mark with flags several houses down from the house going on the market!  Surveyors will place flags about the same distance off the curb as you mention.  So might just be something along that line.  That most likely is the case if the flags only appear along the property lines.

Here is standard utility color codes.   These apply to flags or when marks are painted on the land.

Utility Color Code

Red Red Utility Flag - Electric Electric
Orange Orange Utility Flag - Telephone, Cable TV, Fire, Police Telephone; Cable TV; Fire and Police Communications
Yellow Yellow Utility Flag - Gas and Oil Gas and Oil
Green Green Utility Flag - Storm Drains Storm Drains
Blue Blue Utility Flag - Water Systems Water Systems
Brown Brown Utility Flag - Sewer Systems Sewer Systems
Pink Pink Utility Flag - Surveying Surveying

Thanks Marty,

I recieved a letter today stating that the crews are in the neighborhood to survey for more potential stormwater improvements.  That is great news for me as I am in the flood plain.
