Hi Everyone! I attended the Public Meeting last night about the sidewalks. I think we should come together and try one last time to get the City to take another look at how large these sidewalks are going to be.

If enough residents send in the comment form with similar responses, they will likely make adjustments (fingers crossed). I have a softcopy form that I can email to everyone that has a summary of everyone's concerns from last night. Please take a moment and complete the form and email it to Sonji Mosley at smosley@charlottenc.gov when you have a moment. My email is kashleyh@yahoo.com so send me a quick email and I'll send you the form.

RESPONSES HAVE TO BE RECEIVED BY SONJI BY DECEMBER 18TH

I also started a petition that everyone can sign that will automatically be forwarded to Sonji Mosley on December 18th.

Thanks for your support!

Hi Again! I sent an email to Sonji and asked for a fax number so people could fax in their comments and suggestions if that was easier. Here is her response...

Hi Karen,

I would prefer email or to mail the comment cards in only because I will not be available after the 17th of December and I don’t want anything to get missed during my absence.  If you can have people fax to 704-336-4554 by the 16th that would be great for me and we can get everything gathered together. I appreciate you coming last night.  Have a great evening!

I realize most people in our community know about the history of this project.  I was not aware this was on Charmeck under sidewalks until today.  I thought I would share it in case anyone was interested in reading it!

Murrayhill Road Sidewalk Project Update

Staff from the Charlotte Department of Transportation (CDOT) and the Engineering and Property Management Department (E&PM) have completed an analysis of the Murrayhill Road Sidewalk Project.

The project is classified as a "Tier 3" in accordance with the Sidewalk Retrofit Policy adopted by the City Council in 2005. The overall goal of this category is to provide key connections to schools and parks by providing a logical pedestrian network. Staff concluded that a logical network for the area would be created by adding the following to existing sidewalk segments:

1. Murrayhill Road between Woodlawn Road and Lamont Drive.

2. The western portion of Wedgewood Drive from Murrayhill Road to Seneca Place.

3. Fill in a gap along Seneca Place on the north side between the school driveway and the school entrance.

In reviewing the side of street chosen for sidewalk, the design team evaluated both sides of the streets, prepared concepts and reviewed impacts to existing lots, including grade changes, trees, driveways, house setbacks, utilities, and other issues. Staff will work closely with the City's arborist to preserve healthy, mature trees through tree preservation standards or alternative measures. Staff will locate the sidewalk along each lot to minimize impacts.

CDOT recommends a 5-foot sidewalk located within the public right of way. A typical 6-foot planting strip is anticipated given existing right of way. Where constraints exist, the planting strip width will vary. Constraints may include, but are not limited to, large, healthy, mature trees, retaining walls, grade changes or utilities.

Project design is expected to begin in late October.

As a follow up to inquiries about sidewalk under consideration for Murrayhill Road, the full summary report is available below.
