Do you know a high school student who needs a job or internship next summer?

Training

If so, let them know that NOW is the time to sign up to take the Mayor's Youth Employment Program Career Readiness Training Certification!

Depending on the student's campus, training will begin as early as Sept. 30 and wrap up by Nov. 18. Certification classes will be held during the school day at 16 Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) campuses, with one additional training opportunity being added for students outside these campuses. Career Development Coordinators (CDC) at the schools will be able to enroll students and direct them to the most appropriate training date.

While all CMS youth are eligible to enroll in the training while space is available, priority may be given to students who are 16 to 18 years old.

The Mayor’s Youth Employment Program offers a wide array of career exploration opportunities to local teens. All program participants must be referred by a CDC and complete requirements based on their desired pathway:

  • Career Readiness Training Only: Register with campus CDC
  • Job Shadowing: Register with campus CDC
  • Job Opportunity: Register with campus CDC and follow through with employer-specific hiring requirements
  • Paid Internship Opportunity: Participate in Career Readiness Training Certification; complete internship application; participate in interview; successfully complete drug and background checks; participate in Charlotte Career Discovery Day or approved career exploration activity
  • Unpaid Internship Opportunity: Register with campus CDC and follow through with employer-specific hiring requirements
