 CharMeck 311

  • CharMeck 311 will open on Saturday Jan. 23 at 7 a.m.
  • If callers are out of city limits, they can contact 311 by calling 704-336-7600.
  • We will also keep a recorded message updated with the latest city information.
  • To report a power outage, contact Duke Energy at 1-800-POWERON(1-800-769-3766)

Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) 

  • CityLYNX Gold Line
    • CATS is not operating the CityLYNX Gold Line due to weather conditions.
  • LYNX Blue Line
    • LYNX is operating 10-minute intervals as weather conditions allow.
  • CATS Buses
    • Local and shuttle service is operating but many have detours, and passengers should expect delays. Express and regional express bus service has been cancelled due to worsening conditions.  Airport Connector routes 590-Northlake and 591-Archdale are operating.  Special Transportation Service is operating as scheduled.
    • The Red, Green and Yellow bus routes on the UNC Charlotte campus have also been cancelled.
    • Riders should go to ridetransit.org and click on the Inclement Weather banner for a turn-by-turn description of each route and its detour.  Ridetransit.org will contain the most up-to-date information. Riders can also call 704-336-RIDE (7433).  Wait times for call-in information may be delayed due to heavy call volume.
  • Although treated with sand and ice-melting products, surfaces at station platforms, park and ride lots and other CATS facilities may still be slippery.  Please use extreme caution when accessing CATS facilities.

  • CDOT Crews worked on thoroughfares, arterials and collector streets. Work will continue through the night and all day Saturday.
  • Road temperatures are expected to drop below freezing tonight and black ice will likely form.
  • Travel will be hazardous and motorists should avoid traveling except for emergencies.
  • CDOT advises motorists to keep clear of heavy equipment and trucks treating roads.  
  • Report icy conditions to CharMeck 311 or street maintenance at 704-336-3200.  Dial 911 for emergencies or accidents.

Important reminders:
1. Motorists are asked  to stay clear of heavy equipment and trucks treating streets.
2. Property owners are asked to keep adjacent sidewalks clear.
Sidewalks should be treated with commercially available ice melt products.  Home Depot, Lowes and Ace all carry products that are safe for use on concrete.  The best options for safe and effective removal of ice/snow on  concrete are magnesium chloride and potassium chloride.  Rock salt (Sodium Chloride) and Calcium Chloride can both harm concrete and should be avoided if possible.  Never use products containing nitrates and/or  ammonium sulfate.  These products can rapidly deteriorate concrete. 

Charlotte Douglas International Airport/Aviation
  • Charlotte Douglas International Airport remains open with limited airfield operations.
  • American Airlines plans to restart limited operations around noon on Saturday Jan. 23.
  • Customers will need to continue to check the status of their flights on aa.com 
 Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD)
  • CMPD responded to 89 accidents with property damage.
  • CMPD responded to 14 accidents with injury.
Solid Waste Services (SWS) 
  • Solid Waste Services (SWS) will be suspending collections until Monday, Jan. 25. Thursday and Friday customers who did not have trash collected this week will be collected on Monday, Jan 25.
     
  • SWS will operate on a one-day delay the week of Jan. 25 – Jan. 29, with Friday customers receiving collection service on Saturday, Jan. 30. Go to charlottenc.gov for a full collection schedule for the week of Jan. 25 to Jan. 29.

Roads - Icy conditions can be called in to CharMeck 311 (704-336-7600 if outside Mecklenburg County. Residents are asked to treat the sidewalks adjacent to their property. Black ice will re-form quickly as temperatures drop. Motorists are cautioned about driving and the possibility of black ice forming overnight. 

Trash and recycling - Bulky items scheduled for Thursday should be at curbside Friday for collection. Those scheduled for Friday will be collected on Saturday. All other collection services are operating normally.
 

Airport - The Airport remains open and operational. All three parallel runways are now open. Airfield is clear and returned to normal conditions. Roadway conditions are reported as wet. Maintenance crews will continue monitoring and treating these areas as needed. Public parking lots are wet and slushy in places. Customers are advised to use caution in these areas. All security checkpoints are open. American Airlines is resuming departures out of Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Travelers should check with their air??‹??‹??‹ carriers regarding flight cancellations and delays.??‹ Additional system-wide activity can be found here

Buses and light rail - ??‹CATS bus service and LYNX light rail are running normally. Transit riders are advised to visit the CATS website??‹ for updates and schedule changes.

??‹??‹??‹??‹Charlotte Water - Residents are reminded to open cabinet doors under their sinks and let warm air circulate around pipes to prevent freezing. Also, know where your home's water shut-off valve is located.??‹
