Alert Don't put Batteries in your Recycling Container

Posted in: Madison Park

Major fire last month at the Metrolina Recycling facilities.   Tons of recycables had to be taken to the dump due to fire.    The center did not sustain any damage due to the fire suppression center.

Last week two more fires.  So 3 in about 1 month at the center.

Rechargeable batteries are catching fire in the center.    They could tell this from the video cameras at the center.

Don't put any batteries in the green cans.   Take them to the full service centers, or back to certain retail stores that take them.

Don't put them in your recycling containers.    DANGEROUS For All.

Tell your friends and share this important issue with your neighbors.

Many people think they are doing the right thing by recycling them, but you simply can't do it in the green cans.

The large fire was so bad the center could not accept new materials because all the burnt materials had to be pushed out into the lot.  So that caused trucks to have to be sent off site to two other temp drop sites.  Then all that material had to be loaded in trucks and taken back to the Metrolina Recycling Center later on.   So that involved more cost.  Throw in the fact that Recycling profits are way down where it is costing money for the county to recycling instead of making money it makes it even worse.
