A full paint can or old batteries can be tricky when trying to figure out to dispose of them. Paint and batteries are considered household hazardous waste because these items can cause fires and environmental danger if disposed improperly. Use these 3 tips to ensure you are disposing of these items properly.

Tip 1 :: Buy only what you need. Save money and reduce waste by knowing how much paint or batteries you need beforehand.

Tip 2 :: Reuse items. Store left over paint or batteries in a cool, dark place for future uses. If these items overheat, leak or rupture they can be a     fire hazard.

Tip 3 :: Take left over or old paint to a full service center. Take items to any of the four Mecklenburg County Full Service Recycling and Convenience Centers. Disposing of these items improperly is illegal and can cause damage to our environment.
