Watch press conference on Tropical Storm Florence preparations and response

We will continue sending you important updates as the storm progresses.

Charlotte-area partners, including the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County and responding agencies, hosted a news conference on Sept. 15 to update the public on the area's collaborative emergency response to Tropical Storm Florence with a focus on flooding preparation and awareness.

Service updates

  • City and County offices will be CLOSED on Monday, Sept. 17. This includes all courts, as well as the Animal Care & Control shelter. CATS is currently operating on a normal schedule. 
  • DSS hotlines operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week to receive reports of suspected abuse or neglect. To report abuse of seniors or the disabled, call 704-336-CARE (2273). To report abuse, neglect or human trafficking of children, call 980-31-HELPS (43577).
  • Charlotte Douglas International Airport is open and operational. It is not closing. Some airlines have adjusted their flight schedules. Please check with your airlines for the latest flight information.
  • Trash collection will be on a one-day delay starting on Monday, Sept. 17.
