Hair Salons, Sweepstakes Parlors and More Ordered to Close by NC Governor

Posted in: Madison Park

Businesses ranging from hair and nail salons and barber shops to gyms and health clubs are being ordered to close under the latest executive order to be signed by North Carolina's Gov. Roy Cooper in the ongoing effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Cooper announced Monday afternoon that businesses that, by their nature, make social distancing difficult or impossible will have to close by 5 p.m. on Wednesday. In addition to the business types mentioned above, the list includes massage therapy facilities, movie theaters and sweepstakes parlors, among others.

Social distancing describes health officials' recommendation that people stay at home as much as possible and maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from others when being in public is necessary. That practice is aimed at limiting new infections of the novel coronavirus, known as COVID-19, in order to avoid overwhelming health-care systems.
