The September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance (9/11 Day) is a chance to help others in tribute to the heroes we lost, first responders, and the countless others who serve to defend the nation’s freedom at home and around the globe. Governor Cooper Signs Executive Order Expanding Access to Monoclonal Antibody Treatment for COVID-19
|
Today Governor Roy Cooper signed an Executive Order to make it easier for North Carolinians to access treatment for COVID-19. The Executive Order authorizes and directs State Health Director, Dr. Betsey Tilson, to issue a statewide standing order to expand access to monoclonal antibody treatment, which if taken early can decrease the risk of severe disease, hospitalization, and death. The Order will be in effect through November 30, 2021.
“Expanding access to monoclonal antibody therapy will help more patients across the state get this highly effective COVID-19 treatment,” said Governor Cooper. “In addition to getting more people vaccinated, we need to do all we can to save the lives of people who become infected.”

More than 180,000 N.C. Households Getting Help for Monthly Internet Bills
|
Governor Urges N.C. Families to Sign Up for Discounts on Internet, Computers
|
More than 180,000 North Carolina households are getting critical assistance affording high-speed internet service thanks to a federal relief program that helps families in need pay internet bills and fully participate in the digital economy.
With 182,473 households enrolled in the Federal Communications Commission’s Emergency Broadband Benefit Program (EBBP), North Carolina’s level of enrollment ranks sixth among the 50 states. In April, Governor Roy Cooper sent letters to the state’s internet service providers (ISPs) asking them to participate in this effort to get more North Carolinian’s connected to high-speed internet. A number of ISPs responded to the Governor’s call to participate and enroll their customers in this program.

Governor Cooper Signs Criminal Justice Reform Bills Into Law
|
Governor Roy Cooper signed three criminal justice reform bills into law today, House Bill 436: Support Law Enforcement Mental Health, House Bill 536: Law Enforcement Duty to Intervene and Senate Bill 300: Criminal Justice Reform. These bills align with recommendations of the Governor’s Task Force for Racial Equity in Criminal Justice (TREC).
“We have seen that the criminal justice system doesn’t always treat everyone the same – and too often the differences are disproportionately felt by people of color,” said Governor Cooper. “This legislation will take us one step further toward a more equitable and just North Carolina for all.”
