Plastic Bag Swap Saturday! YW Bags Get Paper!

Charlotte residents can exchange their plastic yard waste bags for kraft paper ones this weekend. 
The City of Charlotte’s Solid Waste Services is hosting a free bag 
exchange Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1200 Otts St. 
The event comes during a transitional period for many residents who 
aren’t allowed to use plastic bags for yard wastebecause they’re
 no longer being accepted by the city for collection.

Yard Waste is No longer being picked up by crews in plastic bags.   Plus 

Residents who continue to use plastic bags could face a minimum fine of $150.

Same fine for putting yard waste curb side prior to the day before pickup!   

 

Nothing is allowed curb side prior to the day before scheduled or normal pickup.  Bulk items must be schedule online at 311 or calling 311.  Be sure to note the date for pickup.  It is not always the next pickup day.  Then place those bulk items curb side the evening before schedule pickup.

 

Remember all cans including personal yard waste cans must be off the curb by midnight on your scheduled pickup day.

 

Any curb side violations could result in a minimum fine of $150.   Fines escalate depending on frequency up to $500.  

Residents also can dispose of yard waste by taking the items in paper bags
 or reusable containers to one of Mecklenburg County’s four full-service 
recycling centers.
