Solid Waste Bumping up Schedule due to Weather Forecast

Posted in: Madison Park

Change in Collection Schedule

Previously, in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday, Solid Waste Services was operating on a one-day delay, but due to the potential of winter weather this weekend, Solid Waste Services wants to ensure all residents receive service this week.

Residents who have not received service are asked to put their carts at the curb tonight, Wednesday, Jan.19 and leave them until collected. This direction especially applies to residents who normally receive collection on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

How to Prepare For Collection :

  • Bag all garbage before putting it into the garbage cart. Loose garbage should not be placed into a garbage cart.
  • Rollout cart lids must be closed completely to ensure proper trash collection. This will reduce the chance of items falling out of the cart onto the ground.
  • Yard waste in plastic bags is not accepted. Yard waste should be prepared in paper bags or resusable containers
  • Separate yard waste from other curbside trash and recyclables. . Each type of collection item should be placed separately at the curb.
  • Cardboard should be cut/torn into small pieces — not folded — and placed loosely in the recycling cart for collection.
  • Do not place plastic bags in the recycling cart. Plastic bags damage recycling machinery and slow item processing. Acceptable recyclable items should be placed loosely in the cart.
  • Schedule a bulk item collection if you are discarding larger-than-normal items such as furniture, large appliances or plumbing fixtures.
  • Solid Waste Services only collects bulk items placed at the curb in front of the home.
  • Empty all appliances, remove any doors on appliances, and place tape in the shape of an "x" on TV screens and any glass. This reduces risk of injury to Solid Waste Services crew members.

*If you are a Solid Waste Services customer, you can sign up to receive collection service updates by texting your collection day (i.e. Monday, Tuesday, etc.) to 732-24. Once registered, you will receive a text message any time there is a scheduled or unscheduled delay on your collection day.

We just had a truck come at 4 PM and started collecting on the even side of Londonderry.   This was much later than normal Thursday pickups,  and should of happened Friday due to MLK day this week, but due to forecast of winter weather on Friday crews are attempting to get a head.    They are attempting to empty all cans.  It looks like most folks have their cans out in this area already, which is good.
