Yard Waste Delayed Lack of Staff 4/29/22

Posted in: Madison Park

Good Morning Marty,

Thank you for reaching out.

We actually had a press release go out on Wednesday that was picked up by the Observer and a few news stations – please see below for samples.

We are asking residents to leave their yard waste at the curb until collected.  I do not believe they will be collecting on Saturday, so I would estimate that if your area is not collected today, it will be early next week.  My understanding is the crews will be working in order of collection days and will complete the day before moving to the next one.

We continue to have staffing shortages, but are aggressively recruiting and hiring and making progress.  And in case anyone should ask, currently, we are using on average 4 trucks & personnel from our multi-family contractor, Waste Pro, to collect garbage.

There previously were 20 vacancies for sanitation drivers,
but 17 of those positions have been filled, the city said.
The newly hired drivers are scheduled to start in the next two weeks, which
will allow Solid Waste Services to resume on-time collection for yard waste,
a news release said. The city also is using Waste Pro, a multi-family
collection contractor, to assist with curbside garbage collection
because of the shortages, The Charlotte Observer previously reported.
Solid Waste Services will have two additional interviews on May 10 and May 24
, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at 1105 Otts St., for open positions. Applicants
can view the job posting and apply for the position at the city’s online
employment center.

I see they caught up this area today.   I actually had 3 different trucks going down my blocks of Londonderry.   Guess better they are sure they get it all than miss and have to return.
