Yard Waste Continues Delay / Solid Waste Hiring

Posted in: Madison Park

Yard Waste Collection Delay

Due to nationwide staffing shortages, yard waste collection is operating on a delayed schedule. Residents are asked to place their yard waste items at the curb until collected.

For convenience, residents also have the option of disposing of containerized yard waste by taking the items in paper bags or reusable containers to one of the four Mecklenburg County full-service recycling centers. Mecklenburg County may charge fees when disposing at the full-service centers.

Solid Waste will host open interviews on May 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1105 Otts Street in an effort to fill vacancies.

Solid Waste Services is Hiring!

City of Charlotte Solid Waste Services will hold open interviews for Class A or B CDL drivers with at least one-year of driving experience. Interviews will be held at Solid Waste Services’ offices, 1105 Otts Street, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 24, June 21,  and July 12. Pay starts at $20.49 per hour.

Applicants will be interviewed on-site and participate in an agility exercise. Dress comfortably and wear closed-toe shoes. Expect to spend up to three hours at the location.

Interested applicants should apply online or call 704.336.7096.

My suggestion is provide a large can a robotic arm can lift for yard waste and call it a day.   Then they would just need a driver to pickup the cans.    Keeping Charlotte Beautiful has suddenly became harder with Trash cans and bags of waste on the curb now 7 days a week!   Sure there is a cost for cans, but think of all the staff they can eliminate which they can't seem to find anyway!   It will pay for iteself at some point.

Resident can always still utilize self haul to full service centers.  I think you can bring in 5 bags for free if you live in Mecklenburg County.  There will be a new Full service center in a couple of years on the South West of town out South Tyron.    They are pretty evenly spread out for residents.

Mecklenburg County residents and businesses can self-haul their Yard Debris to any of the Mecklenburg County Full-Service Centers for a fee based on the amount of material. This is a per visit and per unit fee.

As a county resident, you may have curbside Yard Debris collection where you live.  Mecklenburg County DOES NOT collect any materials curbside. Your City or Town or paid waste licensed hauler  does that for you.  If you have materials that you self haul to a Mecklenburg County  Full-Service Center, the below price schedule will apply.

If you self haul to a Mecklenburg County Full-Service Center, we prefer you bring the material in Kraft paper bags. These bags are compostable and break down without contaminating the finished composted product.

If your yard debris is in plastic bags, we can accept the debris but not the plastic bags. Plastic bags DO NOT break down and are a contaminant in the finished composted product.

You may bring the debris in plastic bags but you must take the bags away when you leave.
