The Second Draft UDO is Here!

The first draft of the Unified Development Ordinance, released in October 2021, generated over 1,200 public comments and many more comments from elected and appointed officials and City and County staff. Many of these comments have been incorporated into the second draft UDO, also referred to as the public hearing draft, which was released for review and comment on Friday, June 3rd. Read the second draft UDO here.

What Can You Expect in the Second Draft?

Two types of changes have been incorporated into the second draft UDO: technical revisions and changes based on community feedback. To help better understand the second draft, we’ve developed a key changes resource document to guide you in your review. This document includes:

1) Background on how to read the second draft, and

2) Highlights of key changes

UDO Supporting Documents: Charlotte Streets Map and Streets Manual

The Charlotte Streets Map and Streets Manual, which includes information on the Street Types and Charlotte Streets Map, Access Management and Driveway Design, and the Comprehensive Transportation Review Guidelines, are documents that support the streets, subdivision, and infrastructure regulations in the UDO. First drafts of both documents were released last fall, followed by public engagement and a comment period. Second drafts of both documents are now available for comment here. To learn more, visit charlottenc.gov/smp.
