Upcoming Events and Engagement Opportunities
Neighborhood Design Workshop - Submit Letters of Intent by October 14
Charlotte is hosting the 31st Annual Congress for New Urbanism (CNU), an international gathering of urban planners, designers, and developers May 31 - June 3, 2023. The CNU Local Host Committee invites letters of interest from communities or organizations to participate in Congress Legacy Projects.
Congress Legacy Projects are neighborhood design workshops in the host region, led by national experts in planning, design, and architecture. Legacy Projects may focus on downtowns, neighborhoods, commercial districts, or corridors. They include community engagement and participation from local stakeholders and residents, and result in a report with a near-term action plan addressing topics like infill development, affordability, parks, transportation, etc.
Municipalities, community non-profits, neighborhood organizations, or other parties across the host region can apply.
Learn more about this opportunity. Funding support for upfront project costs is available for Neighborhood Matching Grant-eligible organizations. View NMG eligibility requirements. To express interest in hosting a Congress Legacy Project, submit a letter of interest (2- page maximum) to Margaret Gattis at mgattis@cnu.org by October 14.
A letter of interest should include the following:
- Introduction of lead project entity or organization. Identify a single point of contact.
- Summary of proposed project location and focus of the challenge to be addressed.
- Summary of lead entity’s capacity to support the project.
Questions? Contact: Margaret Gattis, CNU at mgattis@cnu.org.
City of Charlotte Arts and Culture Participation Survey
The City of Charlotte is creating a comprehensive arts and culture plan and we need your input!
The purpose of this survey is to understand Charlotte-Mecklenburg residents’ attitudes towards cultural activities and how they value culture in their lives: How do you participate as audience members, donors, volunteers, and participants? What is your level of access to cultural activities currently? What are your hopes for the future of arts and culture in your community?
Arts and culture benefit our community in many ways, such as bridging social and cultural barriers, providing growth and development opportunities, and creating a sense of community. The Charlotte Arts and Culture Plan will identify challenges and opportunities for arts and culture in Charlotte-Mecklenburg, and ways to address them, through policies, funding, and resources. Community input is vital to this process.
This survey is one way to add your voice to the chorus helping to develop a sustainable plan that makes the most of our strengths and identifies and develops new opportunities.
Please submit the survey by Oct. 30, 2022 and allow for 10-15 minutes to complete it! Thank you.
