Protect your dogs.   I am on day 20 with one of mine.  That is 20 days of meds and over $800 bucks in treatments from two vets.

I finally used 500 MG Anoxicillin, Rescue albuterol inhaler for myself, Vicks Vapor Rub, and steroids and mine is still not 100%.  I also rubbed triple antibiotic ointment in the tip of her nostrils.  I really thought she was going to pass!  One vet sold me Claxamox 125.  That drug has Amoxicillin in it.   That drug was not strong enough so used the stronger meds I had on hand.  I know that because my dog started getting worse on that low dose. My dogs are small like 22 pounds each.

My second dog picked it up and I gave her some of the same treatments.   She is finishing up her meds.  Second dog was honking like a goose.

We went to bed with her seeming fine and we woke up at 5 am to check on a visiting neighbors dog and my little one was stuck in a seizure and reverse sneeze that would not end.  I thought she was going to choke to death.  I thought at first she was having an allergic reaction and gave her benadryl and steroids.

You can stop the reverse sneeze by squeezing the snout or pressing on the dogs side just behind the front legs.

I am not a vet I am just telling you what worked for me.  I researched all I could find on the reverse sneeze.   I had trouble finding anyone to see her three weeks ago.  Longs was only opened for a couple of hours the day I called them and had 8 dogs waiting and said No.

I have shared this info with both vets that treated my dogs.   I spoke to one vet for 30 minutes yesterday that called me that saw my dog last week and did a heart echo on her.    We caught this early and they thought my dogs was in heart failure she was not it was this terrible virus. I figured it out when the second dog came down with a milder case.

TN also has an outbreak and vets in that area are recommending the two part dog influenza vaccine.   Given 3 weeks apart.

We also were prescribed a cough tablet for the dogs.

My other dog that I thought was fine took a turn after just one day of not dosing in the am.  She was breathing harsh and coughing overnight and this am.  This sure does not go away fast.  I am going to have to get more meds.
