From County Commissioner Laura Meier:
Park Road Park update:
In last year’s budget, the county set aside money to study the blue-green algae in the ponds in the county’s parks. The bad news is that PRP and Freedom Park are the two worst offenders and pose serious public health concerns. The good news is that the almost $5M to fix the problem will be included in the upcoming budget. I am including the timeline and recommendations—dredging both ponds—in the screenshots below. PRP will be addressed first to coincide with the construction of the new pavilion in 2024. Freedom will start in 2025 during Discover Nature construction. Hopefully pairing with already-planned construction will help eliminate the need to close the parks (or parts of the parks) twice. In the meantime, the county will add a Phoslock treatment to keep the algae at lower levels (a short-term fix).
