Attend a Neighborhood Matching Grant Pre-Application Workshop To Learn How Your Neighborhood Can Receive Up To $25k!

The Neighborhood Matching Grants Program (NMG) awards up to $25,000 to eligible neighborhood-based organizations to complete projects including art, beautification, signage, festivals, sustainability, safety improvements, community gardens, recreational features and more! Applications are accepted March 1, June 1, and September 1, annually. Organizations match funds received with at least 50% volunteer labor, the remaining match may be in the form of more volunteer labor, cash, or in-kind donations (equipment, supplies, professional services, etc.).

Participation in a pre-application workshop is required. To get started, register to attend a workshop in-person or online via Zoom.

Apply for the FY24 AmeriCorps Member Position 

Keep Charlotte Beautiful (KCB) is hiring in partnership with Resilience Corps NC! We’re looking for a talented, outgoing individual to serve as Engagement and Education AmeriCorps Specialist starting in September 2023 and ending in July 2024. The purpose of this AmeriCorps position is to expand the scope and capacity of Keep Charlotte Beautiful to conduct effective volunteer outreach and provide environmental education within Charlotte, with an emphasis on underserved, low-income, and non-traditional communities. 

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Further expanding and developing Keep Charlotte Beautiful’s educational programming in CMS schools
  • Assisting in managing KCB’s Adopt a Street and Adopt a Bus Stop Programs
  • Planning cleanups and volunteer events, including those related to Bee City USA initiatives
  • Engaging the public via KCB social media accounts and representing KCB at events
  • Working with other departments to develop unique partnerships and programming

 

The ideal candidate will be able to work a 40 hour work week and some weekend events, carry objects in excess of 25 pounds, and walk at least two miles in variable weather conditions.

 

This position includes a living stipend starting at $25,000, opportunities for professional development, and a $6895 Education Award upon completion of the 1700 hour service term.

It's Time to Get Involved and Shape Your Community!

Community Area Planning builds upon the vision and goals in the Charlotte Future 2040 Comprehensive Plan and provides more detailed guidance regarding development, infrastructure, transportation, and other quality-of-life factors. The city will work collaboratively with stakeholders to develop draft plans for 14 planning areas over the next two years. 

 

City staff will host a number of in-person and virtual workshops for each of the 14 locations for residents to provide input on the development of their community.

Free Fire Extinguisher Training for the Community! 

The Charlotte Fire Department Fire & Life Safety Education division offers free fire extinguisher training for city of Charlotte residents and businesses to prepare them for fire emergencies. The primary goal of the fire extinguisher training is to educate citizens on proper fire evacuation procedures. The program will familiarize residents with the general principles of fire safety, fire extinguisher use and the hazards involved with incipient stage firefighting.

 

*This program is not a live fire training* 

 

Registration is required. Complete one registration per person.

Training on Demand: Vision Zero - Strategies to Improve Public Safety 

Our streets are our responsibility! Vision Zero is a data-driven approach to traffic safety that focuses public dollars on areas that statistically create the most public benefit. In this workshop, the Charlotte Department of Transportation’s Vision Zero Community Coordinator shares how this initiative seeks to improve public safety and end traffic fatalities through education, enforcement and engineering projects like crosswalks, bike lanes and better street lighting. The city of Charlotte is committed to continuing work with the community to increase safety, health and mobility for all users.
