This month we’d like to highlight all the volunteers who participated in October’s 2nd Saturday in Tryon Hills. Together volunteers pulled in over 5700 lbs of trash! This was one of our largest 2nd Saturday hauls! Great job everyone!

The Adopt-A-Stream program is a great opportunity to get your community involved in improving the health of streams and keeping an eye out for potential surface water pollution. While there are many volunteers working hard and collecting tons of trash from streams each year, there are many stream segments still available for adoption all around the county. The new section of Long Creek and Dixon Branch Greenway near Target in Northlake is now open and so is the stream for adoption! If you would like to see what other segments are available near you, check out our Adopt-A-Stream Map and visit us at our Volunteer page to find out how to get involved.

While we’re out walking with pets and enjoying this great weather, remember that bacteria and other components of pet waste can throw off the natural balance of our streams and harm aquatic life. Be sure to always pick up after your pets; whether it’s in our parks, on the streets, or in your back yard. Scoop the poop! Bag it and trash it!
