First Vice President Jack Perry introduced our speakers: Carolin Keith from the Mobil Torrance Refinery, Sally Siemak from Dow Chemical, and Tad Friedman from the Torrance Fire Department. They spoke about the "Shelter in Place" program to warn and protect Torrance residents in the event of any chemical emergency. There has been a great effort to educate and inform school parents and their parents about preparedness for an emergency. They must also educate the adult community, some through Homeowners' associations, like ours. Remember that the siren is tested on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 11:30 am, preceded by musical Winchester chimes to tell you it is only a test. The range of the siren is 1.2 miles.
