Many residents are asking what is to be done in case a state of emergency is declared here in Magnolia Woods (and the rest of Los Angeles).
Many thanks to our neighbor Laura Debole for mentioning this website, www.72hours.org. This site will walk you through everything you need to do to prepare yourself for a disaster, when there is no electricity, no gas, no phone, and no services of any kind.
If you can spare 17 hours to save a neighbor's life, consider signing up to train as a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) member. Training sessions are held at various locations around Los Angeles; check the calendar section of this web site for upcoming dates. If we have a minimum of 25 people interested in CERT training, we can have the classes right here in the neighborhood. Our goal is to have two people on each block certified as CERT leaders in case of a major disaster. Please contact Colleen McGurrin at cmcgurrinonlaw@earthlink.net if you are able to serve your community if and when an emergency happens. Neighborhood Watch captains are especially encouraged to sign up for CERT training.
