A Message From Our SAFFE Officer Trevino

Jun 26, 2004

Hello folks! I am finally back after some time off from work and I hope all is well. 'Just wanted to pass on some information to you about some summer safety tips.

First, as we all know, there are lots of kids out from school for the summer. Unfortunately, with that will come more property crime. It seems that more often suspects are walking onto people?’s porches and helping themselves to potted plants and other personal property- besides the usual rock throwing into the windows of abandoned houses. If you have property on your porch that is small enough to conceal or that is not too heavy to carry away, I would recommend that you place it inside your home when you know you will be gone for long periods of time--especially if it is valuable or is something you are not willing to part with. Also, when/if these incidents occur, please do not hesitate to call police, whether it be myself or another patrol officer.

Second, if you see school-aged kids walking though the neighborhood late at night, call the police to let them know because, even in the summer, they still have a curfew. This could possibly curb the property crimes and criminal mischief. The curfew hours begin at 10:30 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and at midnight on Friday and Saturday.

Stay cool this summer and be safe.
