Manhattan Plaza Tenants Association

At the 2/12 Meeting

Apr 16, 2001

The meeting was largely a discussion of issues detailed below and a recap of the history of MP and the impending possible opt-out.
Residents complained about the large number of washing machines and dryers that are constantly broken and the fact that neither CoinMach nor MP maintenance are doing anything to repair and/or maintain them.
The major portion of the meeting was devoted to the changes in the MP rent payment policy.
In the recent past the MPTA has been receiving letters regarding the fact that MP Management no longer accepts multiple checks for the rent on a single apartment occupied by two people who have always each paid their share. This new policy has caused serious problems for those tenants.
At the 2/12 meeting residents amplified on this theme by stating that Management now will no longer accept a single check from the non-leaseholder of an apartment and is now asking for further documentation regarding domestic partnerships.
City Councilmember Christine Quinn has taken up the issue and is helping with what, to the MPTA and the Councilmember, ?“certainly gives the appearance of being burdensome, unfair, and simply discriminatory.?”
The MPTA will read Christine Quinn?’s February 20th letter to MP Management at the 3/12 meeting.
