To clarify, the law that was passed said Maintenance Corporations and Civic Associations could not prevent homeowners from installing solar panels.

A friend of mine said the fire companies do not like to fight fires at solar panel houses because they can not turn off the power.

This is incorrect!  There is an on/off lever on the "electric" box leading to the solar panels.  Turning it off stops the flow of solar energy to the house.

Better double check on this. Per article of July 10, 2009 in the Wilmington News Journal, this law does not apply retroactively. Deed restrictions in place before 2009 in existing subdivisions are still enforceable. Must be voted on and approved by two-thirds vote of property owners.
