The Neighborhood successfully opposed yet another application by a cell phone company to install a cell phone base station and antennae in our residential community. This time it was an application by AT&T Wireless. The targeted site was the Beethoven Market in west Mar Vista, on Beethoven Avenue at Palms Blvd. The community vigorously opposed the application in a letter and petition campaign and by showing up in force at a community meeting at Penmar Recreation Center and – more importantly- for the Hearing of the application on 10/3/02. (There were about 150 of us at the Hearing.)
You may recall that in the late spring of this year Cingular Wireless had applied for permission to install a base station and antennae on the roof and in the tower of the New Life Church on Walgrove Avenue, on Mar Vista’s westerly border. The experience gained then, in successfully opposing the project, proved invaluable in the struggle against the Beethoven Market project.
In each case the application was withdrawn before the Hearing Officer made a recommendation to her City Zoning Commission.
Both sites are in the area served by the Ven-Mar Neighborhood Association, which extends from Centinela Avenue in the east to Lincoln Blvd. in the west
