The SURVEY RESULTS of 2000
By Donna Delpier (Posada)

Remember when The Focus Group Survey was passed out last June requesting residents to provide input on what they felt was important for our neighborhood and to prioritize their ?“wish?” lists? It?’s hard to believe that a whole year has passed, but believe it or not here we are a short 12 months later. Considering how fast the time seems to have flown, it?’s terrific to see the number of visions that have become realities.

Only through the dedication and efforts of many have we been able to improve our neighborhood. It?’s amazing to realize the following issues have been addressed and/or accomplished:

1. Clean Sweep Containers ?– We have a coordinator and have completed the April round and October is just around the corner, so get your discards ready.

2. Speed Humps ?– An additional two streets have been successful in having them installed, Peralta and Portobello.

3. Stop Lights ?– We were successful in getting the city to do counts, however the numbers did not warrant their installation.

4. Spruce Up Day ?– In spite of limited partipation, progress and improvements were made.

5. Curb Painting (house numbers) ?– This project is currently coming together. Volunteers are welcome and very much NEEDED and appreciated.

6. Re-Landscaping ?– Some improvements have been made, however this will probably be an ongoing mission. If your neighbor needs assistance and you can help, please offer.

7. Painting ?– We have had volunteers paint at least four homes in Marlborough Mesa.

8. Roofs ?– A few new ones, but we have a few to go. We have a couple in Marlborough that own a roofing company and have offered a discount.

In addition to these survey items, we now have two cable companies installed in the area competing for our business, our streets have been resurfaced, our four entrance signs completed, and a new park fence has been installed.

It is only through the diligent efforts of YOU, your friends and neighbors that these items have been made possible. Your time and energies are greatly appreciated. Thanks and congratulations to all!

Curb Painting Project

by Renee Ross Cefalu (Spruce)

Homes with new addressing along with our ?“tree?” logo that are now finished for viewing are found all along Spruce Street in the 3000-3100 block. We have had a few difficulties in working with a new project ?– and this one is no exception. It is working fine now though and we encourage you to call if you would like the curb numbering done to your home. Also, we always will need volunteers until this is completed.

Contact me at 839-8069.

Marlborough Mesa Directory of Services

by Rhonda Merkel

As a resident, I would like to put together a Marlborough Mesa Directory of Services. I work in the mortgage loan area of World Savings Bank. Since I am always talking to people who are moving and looking for all kinds of services, it would be great to have a list of people to refer them to.

This would also be an excellent way to promote the businesses within our own community and become a great tool for all of us. It also could be a nice addition to our Welcome Baskets. I would as well, like to see a copy delivered to each home with the newsletter once it is completed.

Anyone who lives in Marlborough Mesa may be included. The following information should be made available:

Type of Business / Business Name and Address
Name of Marlborough Mesa Resident
Business Phone
Home Phone (optional)
Licensed and Bonded (include if applicable)
Email
References (available upon request)
Very brief statement on type of services offered

If you are interested in being placed in the directory please Email me at HLRKMerk@aol.com. You may also drop your information off at my home at 955 W. Posada or call 480-491-2549. I will leave a box by the front door for your convenience. I would also appreciate any thoughts you may have on creating this directory or adding information I may not have included.

(Editor?’s Note: Rhonda is the Vice President of World Savings and also has contributed boxes of crayons, sticky pads and marker pens to place in our Welcome Baskets.)

Allstate Insurance Agent ?…

Hank and Terri Martinez (Posada) have placed in our Welcome Baskets 2 new items: A tape on FIRE and a Saturday Evening Post Calendar.

Hank has been with Allstate for almost 17 years now. If you have any insurance needs, you may call him at: 345-0003.

They are original owners and have lived here 21 years!! You can read their ?“memories?” on the website under ?“A Bit of Our History.?”

While Walking Your Dog ...

People love seeing others walk their dogs - but they are simply TIRED of a few ?“guilty ones?” leaving the feces on their lawns. So this, you might say, is a warning to those who do.

People ARE watching and WILL be reporting who you are and will be calling in the City for help. This is, after all, against the law.

Vehicle Thefts on the Rise +

by Naomi Mills (Posada)

It looks like we need to begin some kind of a neighborhood planning session ?– w/time and location yet to be determined ?… AND as quick as possible! This neighborhood seems to be an easy target right now not just for stolen vehicles, but other property that needs to be protected. Perhaps there can be a Crime Committee put together to come up with some ideas to stop this before it gets completely out of hand.

Mesa has a "Citizens on Patrol" program, whereby city officials will come out and explain it all. If thieves feel we are "easy targets", what will they do next? Most assuredly - they will NOT stop there. I would rather fight now than to have to "take back" our neighborhood once it has fallen prey to vandals of all kinds. (Maryvale was a prime example of this scenario.)

Email me for/with ideas at njm380@juno.com or if you are interested in leading this desperately needed team ?– we NEED someone.

I am also including an email that Alma sent out on 6-8-01 for those of you who are not on the list to receive Neighborhood Emails. This is it briefly:

?“One of our residents (maybe more, but this is all I know) had mail stolen from her mailbox. The police picked up a woman they caught going thru our neighborhood where the RED flags were raised on mailboxes and stealing outgoing mail.

She had taken checks that were for payments, took down account numbers and then forged the names on that account for withdrawals. She had withdrawn a total of $800 with those forged checks from just one account.

Home Day Care Providers

This is a NEW page that now appears on our website under Community Pages.

It will have a list of Day Care Providers in Marlborough. The purpose for this Home Day Care Provider Page is to KEEP the children within our neighborhood -- close to their homes.

Not all Providers will be listed, as many are already full and always remain that way.

DeAnna Fay (Obispo) asked one day if we had such a list, as she said the website was the first place she thought of looking.

If you live in Marlborough and would like to be included on this page -- please contact me at jnajones@cybertrails.com , 480-831-1525 or 602-321-1139 with your information. You may want to look at the Day Care Provider Page on the website FIRST to see the type of information needed.

Finding good care for our children has always been of utmost concern ... and keeping them close at home is always a benefit.

Please keep in mind that Neighborhood Link will not allow any commercial business to be promoted on our website.

Start of a New Venture

Bill Nichols and daughter, Alison (original owners on Posada) have begun a new business ?– you may have seen or heard about it by now ?– Coffee Cabana.

It is located at 2105 S. Alma School (east side, south of Baseline). KEZ and Channel 12 have both paid them a visit. Stop in and try one of their coffee drinks and frozen ?“Cabana Concoctions?”.

Also, they will be placing a "Buy one, get one FREE" coupon in our Welcome Baskets.

Just a Note ?…

Jim and I will be taking a somewhat ?“easier?” summer ?… the June/July and the Aug/Sept issues of the newsletter will be combined as they were last year.
