Marlborough Mesa DIRECTORY OF SERVICES

In last month's newsletter, I wrote about putting together a Marlborough Directory of Services. I have received some response, although there are many more that I would like to include before printing. This is merely an "information service" for our neighborhood. There is NO cost in being listed in it. When completed we will deliver it with the next newsletter.
It would be good for all neighbors to know what businesses residents' own and whom they could go to and trust. We could patronize those businesses! It is a WIN WIN situation for everyone.
Even if you do not OWN a business, but work at a specific place ... say a jewelry store, it would be nice just to know the name of a person to ask for at that business - no discounts - just a name and hopefully good service.
Some Examples: Avon, Babysitting (including teenagers), Computer Services (all types), Day Care Providers, Financial Institutions (always good to KNOW someone in these places), Gold Canyon Candle, Handyman (several families and singles who could use your services), Housekeeping Services, Lawyers, Painters, Pampered Chef, Real Estate Services, Roofing and any types of Specialties
Anyone who lives in Marlborough Mesa may be included. The following information should be made available:

Frost School?’s newsletter, ?“Frostbites?” can now be found on our website, once the first issue is written. Also, in the Community Calendar, anyone can post the various events.
If other schools would like to include their newsletters and events, please let me know.

MARLBOROUGH'S NEW TREASURERS AND
CLEAN SWEEP COORDINATORS
Lolita and Bob Gates at 904 Pampa have just taken over the responsibilities of Ginger and Rick Richter, who have moved to a retirement community. They have been a resident of this neighborhood since1984. Bob works for SRP and Lolita works at home. Their email is: lolitagates@hotmail.com
By them taking on these responsibilities, we will continue to have the Clean Sweeps brought in every April and October. Check the Community Calendar on our website for dates, streets and times. Information will be on there as soon as Lolita and Bob know and it will be continuously updated.
As of 7-10-01, records show that we have a total of $1,419.95 in the account.
SAR DOG TRAINING VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

My dog Udo and I are training to become a search and rescue team. I need helpers to assist in training and to serve as victims during our practice sessions.
Training will be 2-3 times weekly and will take place in or near our neighborhood between 6:00 and 7:00 a.m. Volunteers must be responsible and able to follow instructions. Perfect for young people interested in dogs and dog training. Parental permission is required. You can reach me at (480) 775-8865.
NEED A NEW ROOF?
Liz and Stacy Benson at 863 Pecos have lived in Marlborough for 2 years now. They own Prime Roofing Inc. They are offering a $100 discount to anyone living in Marlborough Mesa on any complete roofing job. They also place a magnet in our Welcome Baskets for that same offer. CURB PAINTING PROJECT

Thank you for the terrific response to the Curb Painting Project. I have received dozens and dozens of calls from residents interested in having addresses and our ?“Marlborough Mesa?” tree painted curbside.
We got off to a slow start, partly due to the hot, hot summer weather, and partly because we?’ve been experimenting with various stencils trying to find the easiest to use, with the least overspray. Thanks to Jim Jones, we now have a template that minimizes overspray and gives clean, readable numbers.
In order to make this project a success, I need to ask for volunteers to help with painting. (This would take 2-3 hours of your time.) It would be great if we could have at least two people from each street (maybe 4 for the longer ones), because this project is TOO big for just a handful of people to handle our 469 homes.
Please let me know if you would be willing to volunteer to help. Supplies and quick training will be provided! Call me at 839-8069.
(Editor Note: We originally ask for a $10 voluntary donation, since the PRIDE Grant would not cover all supplies, and to call if you wanted your curb painted. Response was great but not enough to completely cover our neighborhood so EMERGENCY SERVICES could utilize these numbers, which was the intent.
After looking at the ?“whole picture?”, we will be painting all curbs UNLESS we hear different from you ?– then ask that you make a voluntary donation in any amount to help defray expenses beyond the grant money.

NEW EXTENDED FENCE AT OUR PARK
You may have noticed that we now have more fencing between the canal and our park/retention basin. Some time ago, Bill Burden (Spruce) began working with the city Parks and Rec. to ?“make this happen?”. He was fearful for the children.
The Parks could not ?“set precedent?” and completely fence the area, but were willing to do about 2/3rds of it if we, as residents, would pay for half. Our share was a total of $1,213.00. We used the grant money from PRIDE (Mesa United Way), which was written for that specific purpose by Sandy Scully (Emerson).
SANTA AT OUR PARK
I KNOW it is early! But, believe it or not, Santa is getting booked pretty full already. Bob and Millie Cingel will celebrate their 50th anniversary soon, and Bob has been a ?“Santa for Hire?” for many of them. He would like to donate a couple of hours of his time this year to the Children in Marlborough. It is so important to teach them to GIVE and not just receive.
Santa will be at the park under the cabana to see all the children as they bring their gifts for those in need. He may even have a little ?“treat?” for them. We could even have cookies for Santa to share with neighbors.
Last year, you remember, Renee Coelho put together our 1st Marlborough Toy Drive for the East Valley Child Crisis Center. This year, we need a coordinator to head this up. It requires a very minimal amount of time and preparation, and since this is the 2nd, you will have Renee to ask any questions you may have about it. We WILL need a coordinator very soon in order to make this happen.
OUR NEWEST AMBASSADORS
Ron and Amy Mellinger, on Obispo, have lived here for 2 years and are now part of our Ambassador Program. They attend Grace Community Church and are the busy parents of 3 children. With Ron and Amy?’s help, this brings us to a total of 14 Ambassadors to cover Marlborough in welcoming our new residents.
If you are interested in this program or know of someone moving in - call 480-831-1525 or 602-321-1139. One of our Ambassadors will be happy to take them a Welcome Basket or YOU may take it.
MARLBOROUGH RESIDENTS
If you have sent your email to me, I have placed it into our ?“Neighborhood Group?” whereby an email is sent out to residents when something happens. This is used for updates between newsletters.
Very few are sent. A most recent one, in part was:
?“The police picked up a woman they caught going thru our neighborhood where RED flags were raised on mailboxes and stealing outgoing mail. She had taken checks intended for payments, took account numbers and then forged names on that account for withdrawals. She had withdrawn a total of $800 with those forged checks from just 1 account. Gilbert Police caught the woman, and ours was not the only neighborhood involved.
We may want to reconsider HOW bills are mailed after this incident ?– it is not the 1st. It is, however, the first that has been CAUGHT from neighborhood that I am aware?”.
