New Website Tracks Filed Police Reports

At the Emergency Neighborhood Meeting that was held in conjunction with the Mesa Police Department on November 15th, 2004, the officers noted that it would help them to resolve ongoing nuisance issues via their Community Action Team (CAT) if we kept a log of all police calls that were made. This was a great idea, but 469 logs spread throughout the homes in our neighborhood do not make it easy to gather and compare information. It makes much more sense to centralize these logs in one accessible location.

To achieve this goal, a new website has been created. It can be accessed directly at:

or by clicking the link on the Marlborough Mesa website: www.neighborhoodlink.com/mesa/marlborough.

Logging a new report is very easy, and it is done anonymously. You can either send an email with the details to:

report@mmcrime.com or visit
WWW.MMCRIME.COM

Click on the link to "FILE NEW REPORT" and fill out a simple online form. Please note that this is NOT a substitute for calling the police department. Only after you have contacted the police should you log the call on the new website.

If you have any questions about how to use this site, please call Paul @ 602-751-5804 or send an email to me at webmaster@mmcrime.com.

All reports remain anonymous. The originating email address and/or name is automatically replaced with ?“Posted by a Concerned Neighbor?”.

This provides us all a simple way to log and view any police reports you have filed. This not only helps to track & log these reports, but it keeps your neighbors informed of any ongoing issues. Called on that suspicious SUV four or five times already? Now you can easily make your neighbors aware of these calls so they can be on the lookout also.

Editor Note: Paul has also agreed to keeping our Crime Stats Page on the website up-to-date on a monthly basis. These stats come directly from the Mesa Police Department.



A CHILD'S TRIBUTE

Every now and then something comes along that just touches you and you can?’t keep to yourself. One such incident occurred recently when Linda Murphy and I were talking about all the dedicated volunteers we are fortunate to have in our neighborhood. She said she knew that these volunteers had a great influence in the children of our neighborhood because: And then she told me with great pride what Tyler, her son, had written in school when each student in his class was asked to write a paper about someone whom they admired most. His paper was about his mom! Of course, this touched her deeply being the mom and volunteer that she is. Then our conversation continued about other things. I have kept this story tucked away for some time ?– wanting to share it but not knowing just how to do so.

I decided to call Tyler himself and ask if he would mind if I printed his report in the newsletter. His answer: "That would be awesome!"

With a little help from Dad, (Mike) in finding where Linda had placed the report for safekeeping, he brought it down ?… all the while neither of them letting Linda know. Pretty tough job in itself! I think you all will enjoy this tribute from a young man about his mother as much as I have. It is:


"BEYOND THE DREAM"

"My Mom helps many people. She helps the neighborhood by doing the New Year?’s Eve Block Party, the Easter Egg Hunt and many fundraisers. She also plans things for Girl Scouts to do for the neighborhood (even though I?’m not a girlscout). She is greatly respected because she is committed to making the neighborhood better.

My mom also works at my school by copying papers and delivering them to the classrooms. She does fantastic art projects for my classroom and everyone thinks they?’re great.

She does many speeches for the neighborhood and helps with the school parties. Once the neighborhood got in the newspaper for the cleanest neighborhood in the city. She has greatly influenced me to help the neighborhood and school."

Tyler ?– you make me proud that I know you and I am certain your parents are extraordinarily proud they have you. Linda and Mike both are great volunteers and a huge asset to our neighborhood.



5th ANNUAL EASTER
EGG HUNT
AND COMMUNITY PICNIC

If you live within the boundaries of Alma School and Extension ?… Guadalupe Road and the Chandler border ?– this is Marlborough Mesa and this is your early reminder for our annual Easter Egg Hunt and Community Picnic!!

Due to when Easter and the Mesa Schools Spring Break fall this year, our Egg Hunt is coming up soon.

Sunday, March 6th
(at our park)
11:30 Lunch
12:30 start the races

Participants in the egg hunt must be in sixth grade and under and LIVE in Marborough Mesa.

As always, we need adult and teen volunteers to run this event. If you would like to help you can call Linda Murphy at 480-820-5742 or email at asufan2002@yahoo.com. If you are a high school student this can count for your volunteer hours needed for National Honors and Service Learning.

Like last year, we will try to provide the picnic with the help of donations. Anytime after February 28th the following items can be dropped off at 3048 S. Spruce St.:
Soda
Water
Bags of Potato Chips or Doritos
Hot Dogs

A reminder:
?• A parent MUST accompany all children.
?• Prizes are for Marborough Mesa residents only.
?• All parents are responsible for ?“going thru?” the bags and baskets of what their children may receive.
?• You may want to consider bringing; sunscreen, a chair, field games for children, etc. If you do, please remember to put your name on those items.
?• In case of lots of rain ?– this event will be rescheduled.

YARD SALE ITEMS NEEDED

CHRISTMAS
TOY DRIVE RECAP

Despite the windy and cold (30+ degree weather) on December 4th, we had a great turn out for the annual toy drive. Many toys were collected for the East Valley Child Crisis Center and for the families that our neighbor, Diane LeFevre, works with. While this was one of our lowest turnouts, I applaud all the brave souls who came for food and fun.

The firemen from Mesa station on Extension just south of Southern came to show off their truck. It was a big hit, even with the adults. Thanks to my committee and everyone who helped set it up and take it down. Special thanks to SANTA for getting those last minute wish list requests. See you next December!!!



CHRISTMAS GIFTS

The Christmas Toy Drive was a great success. The neighborhood donated 110 toys, which were given to the Child Crisis Nursery and to children on the Newborn Intensive Care program (NICP).

I am a Community Health Nurse with the NICP. We monitor infants?’ developments that were in the NICU. With your assistance, we were able to help 8 of our families, which would not have received anything. Some of the children we helped are being raised by their grandparents. Everyone was very appreciative. Thank you for your generosity. With the neighborhood donating the toys, my work focused on buying clothing for the children. Thank you again.

CITY SEEKS PUBLIC INPUT
ON COMMUNITY NEEDS


Here is your chance to have some input and say where you want the money to go:

The Community Revitalization Division is working on its 5-year strategic plan for program years 2005 through 2009. An important component of this process is community input on what are Mesa's important needs. The public is invited to complete surveys.

The questionnaires seek feedback regarding Mesa's public facilities, infrastructure, public services and neighborhood priorities, affordable housing and homeless needs. Program areas may include senior centers, parks, recreational facilities, street improvements, streetlight upgrades, sidewalks, water and sewer lines, job training, social services, job creation and business assistance.

The surveys are available online at
www.cityofmesa.org/comrev/strategicplan.asp. Responses will help Mesa prioritize its grant funds. Surveys must be completed and returned to the Community Revitalization Division by Feb. 8.

STRANGER DANGER?

Mollera Street from 2902 to 3010 may lose their Neighborhood Watch sign unless we find a replacement for the person who moved and cared for those responsibilities in the past. This takes very little time.

Neighborhood Watch only requires that residents meet 2 times per year, but these meetings can take place at any of our neighborhood's regularly scheduled events. You just need to bring your sign-up sheet and collect signatures from the residents in your Block Watch area. Only signatures of 50% of your 14 homes are required in order to keep your sign up.

If someone can help, please call Alma at 480-831-1525 or 602-321-1139. I will put you in touch with the right person at the Police Department and they will send you a booklet with sign-up sheets.

You may remember in the Nov/Dec Newsletter, our entrance at Alma School on Pampa/Wycliff has already lost their Neighborhood Watch sign due to inactivity. We are still looking for one of the 9 families who live there to take on this new responsibility.

A DIFFERENT KIND OF REPORTING

Angela Ensley has taken the responsibility of calling Mesa Police whenever she hears the helicopter overhead. She finds out what the problem is and posts it on our website in the Talk About It area for all of us to see. If it is fitting, she will also post it on the new www.mmcrime.com page that Paul Simpson has created.



HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTIONS

Mesa?’s next event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, January 22, 2005 at the East Mesa Service Center, 6935 E. Decatur (east of Power Road, north of University). There is no cost to take advantage of this service, but Mesa residents are asked to show their most recent trash bill upon arrival. Hazardous household waste will only be accepted during the event dates and times and residents are asked to remain in their vehicles at all times while at the site.
