So far in October alone we have had 701 "hits" on our Marlborough Mesa Home Page Website since the flyers were passed out. That shows there IS a definite interest.

As one neighbor wrote: "This form of communication is a POWERFUL TOOL" -- so let's utilize it.

Remember when a neighborhood was a neighborhood? When busy lives and block fences didn?’t separate us from each other?

Well, the Marlborough Mesa neighborhood is doing something to bring back the good, ?’ol days.

The third blockwatch of the year was recently held. Actually, it should be called a block party. Led by Jim and Alma Jones and Mike and Linda Murphy, about 60-70 residents from the 800, 900 and 1000 blocks of Posada along with Spruce Street (and even a few from Pampa and Peralta) met to renew friendships, build new ones and create a real neighborhood.

?“This is a totally joint effort,?” said Alma, block leader for the 1000 block of Posada.

A representative from the city of Mesa was on hand to talk about solid waste disposal, and several police officers were present. If there was ever a time for kids to feel safe rollerblading in the street, this was it, with the roads blocked off and the men in blue around.

Officer Mike Traficano said neighborhood gatherings are important because the more you know your neighbors, the more specific information you have about their work hours, vehicles, etc., the better you can protect them from crime.

?“Looking out for each other is always a good idea,?” Traficano said.

There are 469 homes in the Marlborough neighborhood, and in an effort to keep everyone in touch, a website has been created that includes a newsletter Alma continually updates. The address for the website is: neighborhoodlink.com. Give it a look to see what?’s coming up. Burglaries will be reported to see if there?’s a pattern. In the post-a-note section, you can advertise your garage sale.

Homes aren?’t built with front porches anymore. But the Marlborough neighborhood wants to do what developers won?’t: Give you a chance to know your neighbor. Get involved. Those block fences won?’t seem so tall anymore.



2 NEW ORDINANCES...

As many of you may have already seen from the City of Mesa Newsletter, we have 2 new laws in Mesa that may affect some. The GO-PED law in brief:

*minors must carry notarized written consent from parent or legal guardian when riding motorized skateboards or Go-Peds on City streets
*minors must use a helmet and footwear
*ALL users must wear goggles
*children under 14 may NOT operate motorized skateboards
*not allowed between dusk and dawn

New RV law for homeowners must:

*store RVs, utility trailers and truck campers in a "buildable area" behind the front of the home or in the side yard if not greater than 30 feet in length.
*RVs taller than 6 feet that are stored in the side yard must be screened from the street by a 6-ft. high opaque fence.

NEW TIMES -- HAZARDOUS WASTE

It has been brought to my attention that the information ont he Hazardous Waste Dump that was posted here previously is in Tempe (not Mesa) and that we in Mesa cannot use it. However, the next one coming up that we CAN use is in GILBERT on NOV. 6th at: 1025 S. Gilbert Road from 8 am - 2 pm. The next one is on March 4, 2000 in MESA at: Mesa Drive and University.

You will need your City of Mesa bill as well as your drivers license. This is for RESIDENTIAL WASTE ONLY.

I am sure this information si correct, as I have this on the greatest authority and that is Jennifer Means at the City of Mesa. Sorry for any inconvenience.


NEW SIGNS AT ENTRANCES

Do we here at Marlborough Mesa want our own identity? Signs that indicate "Marlborough Mesa" would be located at 3 of the entrances -- 2 from Alma School and 1 from Guadalupe. We will be applying for a community grant after we hear enough from YOU to find out if YOU want that. RECENT CAR/TRUCK BREAK-INS

Sept. 10-25th on Extension from Peralta to Pampa there have been 3 BREAK-INS with cars parked along Extension. Another one was side-swiped in that same area. There was also 1 ATTEMPTED break-in of a vehicle.

Sept. 20-30th on Posada another ATTEMPTED break-in with a truck parked IN the owners driveway. This one did about $750 worth of damage -- but they did not get the truck, as the owner must have caught them as she was going to work in the wee hours of the morning.

PS. I'm ADDING to this as of Oct. 14, 1999. Another Break-in of a vehicle in the 900 Block of Pecos was just reported AND one stolen (although that one has not been totally confirmed as of today)
