1st Entrance Sign -- PAID!
Our first sign is PAID in full -- thanks to MANY people!
Three flyers have been passed around in the neighborhood since the beginning of the year regarding our entrance signs, since many do not have the internet. All information and half of the payment was given to Mark Cefalu, our "Marlborough Sign Maker". He assures us that the sign will be ready and up in about 6 weeks. He will be donating his time and talent to the installation of our signs. This is an update on our financial status as well as to pay recognition and to say "Thank YOU" to those people in our development that have made our first sign a reality.

Since Ginger and Rick Richter have been handling ALL of our treasury duties, they have written this update. I cannot tell you what THEY have done for our community -- in every respect. Aside from just keeping all the $5-$50 checks and cash that have either been donated to their house or mine, they have made many, many trips to Desert Schools Credit Union. Ginger feels that she should never keep those checks/monies more than one day! So she and Rick have made a trip to the credit union every single day since this all began. They tell me the people at the credit union certainly know them on a first-name basis.

Since they do not have the internet, I print out "things" and give them whenever possible. So, if you would like to say a kind word or two to them via the internet - I will certainly see that they get it. Their report is as follows:

Our January 31st deadline has passed. Participation has been good but not great. Of the 462 homes in our subdivision, 81 homeowners have contributed and they have been very generous. With the $2000.00 PRIDE Grant and the amount donated, we have enough for the first sign to be placed on the southeast corner of Pecos and Alma School.

Since we only qualify for one grant a year, if we want the second sign for the Guadalupe and Emerson entrance we must either raise the funds ourselves or wait until next year to re-apply. We could easily raise the amount needed with the participation of those who have not already contributed. ANY amount is appreciated and it is not too late. Your donation may be dropped off at either Ginger and Rick Richter's (1145 W. Obispo) or Alma and Jim Jones's (1031 W. Posada).

Money collected and left over after the first sign is paid for will remain in an account at Desert Schools Credit Union (gaining interest) - waiting to pay for the second sign.

Wouldn't it be a source of pride to see these identifying signs at the entrances of "your" subdivision?

Community Gardening
Cecil and Maria Duarte have offered part of their huge backyard for a Community Garden. This is getting to be quite the "thing" around the country. Call them if you or your children would like to work in an "old fashioned" garden and wish to have "fresh veggies" throughout the summer. Their address is 2924 S. Wycliff. CABLE OPTIONS

As you all know, we have only one option with a cable provider in Marlborough. Unfortunately it is Cox. I have been told if we get enough interest the City will do whatever they have to do to give Cable America the okay to come down here. Cable America is cheaper and offers more channels than Cox and they are just north of us. They have no plans to come South of Guadalupe. Please let me hear from you if there is interest.

Fence Painting Party II
This will be our 2nd Fence Painting Party (and LAST one for a long time - hopefully) and we want to get it done before hot weather is upon us.

As many of you know, we were SHY of paint when we did the
Alma School fence, so we must "do it all again" for the Guadalupe Road fence.

This fence is indeed not as long as the Alma School one, but it will require a bit more caution, as it has the used brick pillars in between the sections of fence.

Karen Walsh has suggested a date of Saturday, March 4, 2000. We will need to MASK off those brick pillars probably the day before (on Friday). We NEED masking tape -- the wide kind. (If anyone else has any ideas about this particular job -- please "plunge right in", as this is NOT my forte! Any volunteers???

This will take 1/2 of your day as it did before if we get 50 or so neighbors together who are willing to "finish the job" up.

Our neighborhood fences will all be done -- just in time for our --

1st new ENTRANCE SIGN!

Mark, our "sign man" tells me it will take about 6 weeks and I have given him all paperwork and 1/2 payment this week.

Some of you who have joined the website since our first "paint job" may not realize that the city will NOT paint our fences -- we must do it ourselves -- if we care. However, they will provide FREE paint and rollers. We need to bring the "fuzzy" or nap portion of the roller.

YOUR TIME is needed to do this.

If you would like to have hot dogs in the park as we did before after we have finished painting, let me know. We do need a coordinator for that part. Debbie and Don Glick did it last time and it tasted sooo yummy after a long morning's work. Any volunteers???

It seems everyone had a good time the last paint party. Andrew Long of the Tribune did an article on us. He wants to be there again this year and also the editor from Across the Back Fence, Chrystal Prentice wants to do an article on us as well.

The BEST part of all was simply getting to know your neighbors by working alongside them and knowing that they too care about their property as much as you do.
