Progress and Preservation ...
TOGETHER we're making a difference

The City of Mesa will be preserving our newly painted Alma School Fence by putting in granite and plants on our 3 entrance corners to match the already completed landscaping. This is progress!
They will begin in about a week. This will add to the "Beautification of Marlborough" and will save precious water as well. Thanks to Councilman Dennis Kavanaugh, the City of Mesa and to everyone who had a part in working on this project.

FOCUS GROUP
By Becky Claycomb
(Posada)
Is anyone interested in getting together to discuss ways we could seek funding for the signs? This is a huge task that our entire community should be involved in.
If we met for just one hour we could brainstorm on ways each of us could engage neighbors in contributing to the signs or how we could seek funding from other sources. Reply by March 6 and we can plan a meeting. For those who have already replied over the internet in the Discussion Area - no need to do so again - we are counting on you. Email: larryc@asu.uswest.net or call 839-6006.

HONOR STUDENTS
By Karen Walsh
(Obispo)
We would like to recognize the MANY Honor Students in Marlborough. If your son or daughter is an Honors Student (and I know there are many), please contact me at 480-839-8006 or Email: kwalsh95@aol.com .
If you know of someone's child who is an Honors Student and perhaps they are not on the internet, just let me know their name and the school they attend.
It would be nice to recognize them all in the newsletter once a complete list is compiled.

And For Those Speeding Demons ..
Radar Guns are now available through the Police Department. You may check one out ?… sit anywhere you like ?… get the license of those who are speeding ?… and the model of the vehicle ?… the police will then send a "nice" reminder letter to them. You will remain anonymous. The phone number for traffic control is 480-644-3533.

PAINT DAY -- SATURDAY, MARCH 4
Hopefully, this newsletter will "hit the streets" before paint day arrives. We will meet at Guadalupe and Emerson for breakfast at 7:00 am. We still desperately need a truck to bring the 5 gallon paint buckets from our home on Posada to Guadalupe and Emerson and to be there to return the empties.
Many of your neighbors are helping - but we still can use more. There will be a picnic at our park after the work. Good news: the owner, Doug Woodmansee of Pro Auto Parts and Hardware (our neighborhood store) is providing the "fuzzy" part of the roller - just bring a brush if you like. We have the rest. Also Manager John Gunn of ICI Dulux Paints is mixing all 100 gallons of our paint from the City of Mesa and delivering it on Friday, March 3!
If you cannot help paint, maybe you can cook the hot dogs. Call our food coordinators to see what they need you to bring - Debbie & Don Glick at 752-1767.
Attention: Blockwatch Leaders. - this event can count as one of your meetings with 50% present.

NEW SEX OFFENDER SITE
Debbie Nettles made me aware of this, and it now appears on our Homepage under Police & Safety. You can go there and put in any zip code to see if a sex offender is living close to you and what level they are. It also gives a picture of them with a description.
As I write this, the area around Southern and Gilbert Road are fighting to keep a Level 3 Sex Offender from moving into their neighborhood. This is something we ALL need to pay close attention.

EMERSON NEWS
We have some TV celebrities who live on Emerson. Recently, Channel 3 did a story on Roy and Mary Rednour. They own a lawnmower and GoKart Shop at 3050 S. Country Club Drive - almost IN our subdivision! They have the "hottest" thing going for kids - actually pretty safe too. It is called a "razor"! Doesn't sound safe, huh? But it is actually a foot-operated scooter with wheels like rollerblades and brakes too. It folds up completely and weighs only 6 ?½ pounds. I tried it - FUN!

PLATA NEWS
Joan and Dan Wiebe, Blockwatch Leaders are planning to have an April Garage Sale as one of their Blockwatch events to raise funds toward our 2nd sign. Joan says they will combine a doughnut & coffee/garage sale and contribute a percentage of those funds as a "Block Contribution."

HAZARDOUS WASTE DAY
Household Hazardous Waste Day scheduled for March 4, 2000 from 8AM-2PM at 2 locations:
300 E. 6th Street and 6935 E. Decatur
The City's BLT (batteries/latex paint/tires) Program is held monthly and moves from: 2412 N. Center St. to 6935 E. Decatur depending on the month.
The next event for the west side is May 20th at the Center St. address. The event is open between 8 and 12 noon. They do not accept anything other than batteries, latex paint and tires and there is a limit of 5 tires (without rims).

2nd Sign Contributors
I must tell you that once the deadline was past for contributions toward our 1st sign, we did not see many people coming around to help with the second one. To make our 2nd sign possible, these are the folks who have so far "added" to the funds.
Bruce Copley Jim and Chauntel Dean
Richard and Dee Chavosky Michael and Sandra Scully
Carolyn Beck Ron Schimmel and
Robbie Claycomb
Our whole community needs to know about Robbie. He is a young boy who gave back what he earned from delivering this newsletter to you - toward the 2nd sign.

If those who have not already contributed to the 1st sign would give any amount - we would not have to wait another year to get that 2nd entrance sign at Guadalupe and Emerson. If anyone would like to contribute toward the 2nd one that have already done so for the 1st - it would be appreciated.

Some have ask about the high COST of these signs and WHY so expensive? Best advice: call any COMMERCIAL sign company - there will be your answer. We needed a sign that was maintenance free plus we needed the ability to "duplicate" letters in case of vandalism. We have both with this sign.

Join in just by providing me with your email address. This is provided as a community service and there are NO charges.
Many are already signed up - but there are many more who have not. You have computers - so why not know what is going on in our neighborhood - quickly? See what's happening in our community.
This is YOUR site! Many articles that appear in this newsletter are "Discussions" on that site. You have an opinion, right? So make it count - jump right in! Don't be left out.
Any inquiries in regard to the contents in this newsletter, just contact me, Alma Jones at our website: neighborhoodlink.com/mesa/Marlborough or email jnajones@cybertrails.com or call 480-831-1525 or 602-321-1139

ARE YOU READING THIS?
This article appeared in the PRINTED copy that was distributed to all neighbors on March 2 or 3. I realize that if you are reading this from our website that it is not a problem for you -- but what about the rest of our neighbors who do not have the internet? Give me your suggestions.

This newsletter - what is the best way to get it into your hands? I like writing it, cannot continue to get it passed out. Any suggestions would be appreciated. If this is something you would like to see continued, how best can we accomplish that? Are you willing to take a street (every month) and pass it out? Could we possibly have a box at an entrance where anyone could stop and pick one up? Everyone who has access to the internet can easily access it, but for those of you who do not - there must be a way? Most importantly, would you like to see it continue? Please call or email: jnajones@cybertrails.com or call 480-831-1525 or 602-321-1139 if you would.
