Propositions on the November 7th Ballot

As you are probably aware, there will be many propositions on the ballot November 7. Working at the legislature has given me the opportunity to become familiar with most of them. I have worked with many of them as they were being formed. I urge my neighbors to do two things:

* 1. Vote and 2. Be an educated voter. *
There are a few propositions that will have a serious impact to Arizona and much of the information out there is misleading and incomplete.

Let?’s have a light discussion and meet at the park Thursday, November 2 at 7:00 pm. Bring something to drink and I will bring pamphlets and info regarding all of them.

Many of our children will be out in their costumes ?– so let?’s all be a little extra cautious come Oct. 31st.



Beverly Street Cleanup
An email from Sandy Scully (Emerson)

Just wanted to share that the Beverly Street cleanup project was completed last week by Tom & Karen Walker, Greg Hess and Debbie & Don Glick (Olla) so they could take advantage of the clean sweep dumpsters in the neighborhood. The trees have been trimmed and all leaves and debris picked up along the wall. ?“I have great neighbors!?”

I spoke to Dave Heywood at Heywood Realty who is responsible for the upkeep at the Marlborough Mesa Villas. He told me that the street would be cleaned whenever the yard maintenance is done around the condos on a regular basis now.

He heard about our neighborhood project of painting the exterior walls of the neighborhood and was quite impressed by our efforts.

Dave also asked for the name of the company who did our Marlborough Mesa signs. They are looking to redoing theirs, so I passed along the information.

Editors note: Sandra Scully (Emerson) and Karen Walker (Olla) were the only ones who showed up for the ?“Walk-a-Thon?” last month to pick up trash in the streets of our neighborhood. Thank you both!


Update on Speed Humps

The City will redo the survey on Emerson since the last one was done at the same time as the cable construction and we were only under by an average of 2 MPH. We should see the ?“hoses?”, as that new survey will begin any day now.

Portobello is also going to be resurveyed because they were only under by an average of 1 MPH. So, although we failed the initial speed surveys -- there is still some hope for Portobello and Emerson.

Pampa is also going to be recounted. Apparently the count (vehicle volume) did pass this time; however, it came up more than twice the number they got the last time they did it. They do not believe the vehicle volume could have more than doubled in such a short time. I'll update you on Plata and Emerson as soon as Dale contacts me. (It will be posted in the Discussion area of the website.) The new surveys on Portobello, Emerson, Pampa will be conducted shortly.

Tom writes: Peralta has already been approved for speed humps but still need signatures from about half of the people. Feelings are mixed. Most people see the need for slowing down the traffic and are willing to have speed humps in front of their homes. Some folks, however, are unwilling to sign anything and are not too concerned. Kevin Biesty and I will be out collecting signatures this Sat. morning. (See this entire article in the Nov. Newsletter online.)



Cable America

Dear Marlborough Mesa Residents:
Recently there has been speculation as to why CableAmerica is constructing its cable system through the front yard easement in Marlborough Mesa. We hope the following clarifies why we chose to do front right-of-way construction.
CableAmerica has constructed its cable television system throughout Mesa using the front street easement for the following reasons:

1. We do not have to bother residents for access to yards when maintenance on the system is needed.

2. When FCC required testing is performed we do not have to gain access to residents back yards.

3. Our construction quality control personnel can assess what is needed to restore resident?’s yards back to the conditions we found them.

4. Each CableAmerica yard pedestal provides service to 4 individual homes. By having these pedestals out front, CableAmerica installation and service technicians do not have to access one resident?’s backyard every time they perform a service call.

CableAmerica is truly excited about having the opportunity to be your cable television provider, and we will do our best to win your trust and confidence.

CableAmerica expects to start offering service in November with high speed Internet service likely being completed and offered in December.

Two more Ambassadors ?…
Michele Lesher is not only an Ambassador, but is our newest REALTOR in Marlborough. Michele and her husband, Ken live on Pecos, and she has been delivering Welcome Packets for about 3 months. You can read more about them in the Meet Your Neighbors page on our website

Our neighborhood is being covered quite nicely on nearly every street. Jane Jones (Mollera), is the newest Ambassador. She works as a full time Dental Assistant and is a single mom raising her 2 children, Ariel and Benjamin (which just happen to be our grandchildren). Ariel will be helping her mom when there are Welcome Packets to be delivered.

I have had quite a few people suggest that it would be nice if we could use real baskets for our Ambassadors to pass out. Because they are somewhat expensive, I am asking for help on this one. Does anyone know of a store that would be willing to donate baskets to us, or if any of you have one or more of them you wish to donate, they would be ?“welcome?”. Currently Safeway donates jars of salsa and we are looking for other donations. These, along with the Welcome Packets, would be so nice if presented in a pretty basket to our new neighbors ?– and what a way to welcome them to our community.

Code Compliance
We have received several inquiries about Prop 400 and what its effects may have in our neighborhood. This month, attached is a copy of the reprint from Across the Back Fence, a City publication, which will give in detail what Prop 400 means to us.


All ?“Clean Sweeps?” / need a Volunteer
There were some contamination problems with the first sets of Green Sweeps so Solid Waste decided it would be in our best interest to place only white containers, as they could be used for both trash and trimmings.

Since having the containers in our area on a ?“neighborhood-wide scale?” seems to have proven very successful, would we like to request them again in the springtime? There is always a long wait and we must act pretty quickly in order to reserve them again in March or April. That is also a time when everyone wants them.

If you recall, the last time we requested them, the City allowed us to do this via email. They will again. However, a volunteer is NEEDED to pick up these emails from my home and take them to the City. I will volunteer to collect the emails and print them ?– but I have no time to take them to the City offices or to schedule this in the beginning neighborhood-wide. I need your input:

1. Do we, as an entire neighborhood, want to do this on a regular basis? In March ?… April and again in October?

2. Is there anyone who would volunteer for this task? It would at best take 2 hours of your time.
Some neighborhoods do this on a regular basis 2 times per year. One person takes charge of just caring for that little detail and everyone knows what months the Clean Sweeps will be on their street. Call Alma at 480-831-1525 or 602-321-1139.

Posada/Spruce G.A.I.N Pictures
The recent GAIN party Oct. 21 was held in spite of the rain! We moved the cars out of our garage (Jim and Alma Jones?’) and moved the tables and food in. We had LOTS of visitors and police cars from City officials, as some of the other parties had cancelled.
