Peralta Speed Humps

We DID get our 70 percent approval for the speed humps! But to cover all bases Mike King with the City of Mesa is sending letters out to those people who live on Peralta on the east side of Extension (who did not respond to our survey). Hopefully these people will respond in the affirmative.
At any rate, the Transportation Department of Mesa will start putting signs up and marking the street for two humps by the end of Jan. or beginning of Feb.
The location of these humps will be one between Beverly and Davis Circles and one approximately a little east of 1021 and 1022 Peralta.
Private contractors will install the humps. Mr. King was not privy to the contractor?’s schedule but thought it might be 6 weeks to 2 months after the signs went up.
Our "Newsletter" Story
Back in January of last year, the kids were passing out our newsletter to all of our 469 homes. It got to be a pretty big job, so we ask for some ?“adult?” help. All the streets were covered very quickly with a volunteer or two on every street.
Things change ?– times change ?– and NOW we need help on a couple of our streets once again.
The 1st is Osage. There is a total of 22 homes there. The 2nd is Portobello (from Mollera to Spruce). There are 14 homes total.
If you live on Osage or Portobello (in the 1000 or 1100 block), please consider doing this one time per month. It will be the only way those streets (or sections) will receive it from now on. Cox Communication Update

Our thanks to Cox Communications and Double Jack Construction for attending the neighborhood meeting in early January. Many of our neighbors expressed their concerns and both companies had information, proposed cable runs, and stayed until they answered the many questions put to them.
To summarize the key points: Permits were granted for roughly the Emerson to Extension corridor. Olla and Osage were updated a few years ago so these streets should escape this round of construction.
The next set of permits will be to our neighbors East of Extension, with construction going all the way to Country Club. When that area is finished, permits will be issued for the Emerson to Alma School area to complete the installation phase of the upgrade.
Cox has told us that they still have no delivery date from their fiber optic supplier. This cable will be installed down Alma School from Baseline so we all should see that construction coming into our area. This will begin the second phase of the upgrade and is hoped for by summer. This phase allows them to switch over existing Cox Communications customers and is hoped to be completed by late summer.
Obviously they cannot begin the final phase of removing the old equipment from the backyards until they have switched over to the new equipment, and no tentative date has yet been set for that. We Now HAVE ?… Clean Sweep Coordinators
This is an update: Back in November of 2000, Marlborough needed a Coordinator for bringing our Clean Sweep Dumpsters into the neighborhood on a regular semi-annual basis.
If you remember, we were allowed to sign up for these dumpsters via email last year.
Well, I am pleased to report that we have had 2 volunteers! Ginger Richter (Obispo) will be calling to set dates (hopefully April and October) and Diane LeFevre (Spruce) will be taking all the emails we receive from YOU down to the City of Mesa.
As the dates to reserve the containers fills very quickly, Ginger will be calling early. I will send out an email and ask that YOU respond once everything is in place. IF you would like to have the dumpsters brought to your street, we MUST have many emails returned so that Diane can take them to the City. When the time comes, I will put all info in that email.
20 Years + and Looking Great!
Can you make this statement ?… about your home ?… not your age? That is the goal of Mesa?’s new City Ordinance passed by Mesa residents last year. It requires property owners to keep homes and landscaping clean and repaired. This will keep our community safe and attractive as well as maintain our property values.
It applies to outside areas that can be seen from the public right-of-way and includes yards (and weeds), fences, walls, paint, roofing, sheds and windows.
If you find you and your property are having issues with any of these items and need assistance, it is there for the asking. The Community Assistance number is 602-263-8856.
Residents living within a neighborhood are the best eyes and ears for the City. You are encouraged to "take a part" in this. When you see things of the above nature that need attention, please call Code Compliance at 480-644-2061. You can remain anonymous. Together we can keep our community at its very best.

Portobello Begins Quest for Humps

Portobello Ave. is on the road to survey all residents, who the City of Mesa considers, affected by the installation of speed humps on Portobello. No matter what your opinion about the speed humps, we would like to have your signature on the survey, if you are to be affected.
We have had some homeowners share concerns about the dangers of the speed humps. One such concern is a vehicle losing control on a speed hump and running into a house. According to Dale Brunk, City of Mesa Senior Traffic Studies Analysis, there has not, to his knowledge, ever been a case of this type of accident occurring in the City of Mesa or other places in the country that use this same type of speed hump. Mr. Brunk mentioned that with the speeds registered on Portobello, during the qualification testing, there would be more chance of that type of accident occurring without the speed humps right now!
The other concern was the impact of the value of homes on a street that had speed humps. Both Mr. Brunk and Mr. Jim Andrews, Real Estate Agent with West USA, verified that speed humps have no effect either way on the value of a home.
All renters are to be included with the survey, but we would like information about how to contact the owner of the property, since their input is necessary also.
The City of Mesa has given four (4) possible locations of the speed humps and those are available for inspection.

Getting a Facelift
Our streets are due to be resurfaced with a seal coat in April. Concern was that Cox would not be finished up their work before that happened. Ted Stadler from the Street Maintenance Dept. of the City has assured me that they will postpone the resurfacing until mid-April when Cox has said they will be finished cutting into some of our streets.
Easter Egg Hunt and Community Picnic

Easter is FAST approaching ?– April 15th. We want to organize the first "Easter Egg Hunt and Picnic" on Saturday, April 14th at our "park".
This would be a great time for our "little" residents, as well as a picnic for all of us. It can also be used as one of your Blockwatch events for the year!!!
A "Fast Track Grant" can be prepared to receive up to $300 from Mesa United Way to defray most of the cost of this. We need a volunteer to write this one page grant for this money. It is FREE for the asking - so let's ASK!!! I cannot write this grant, as I am on the PRIDE Selection Committee for these, however, I CAN and WILL help someone else write it !!
Volunteers are needed to help organize this project, as the scope is just too large for one or two people to do it all.

?· coloring Easter eggs
?· hiding the eggs
?· soliciting area merchants for "prizes"
?· creating/passing out flyers

WE NEED YOU AND YOUR IDEAS!!!
As soon as a committee is formed (i.e. YOU volunteer with me) ?– we will set a date for the 1st planning meeting around the 15th of February.
