3rd Annual Easter Egg Hunt and Community Picnic

If you live within the boundaries of Alma School Road and Extension ... Guadalupe Road and the Chandler border ?– this is Marlborough Mesa and you are invited!!!
As much as we would like to include our friends and family who live nearby to share in this fun event, it is truly only for residents who live in Marlborough Mesa. We do not have the manpower or financial resources to fund an event that would include those outside our MM community.

Ages for the egg hunt are from 11 years old and under
Any donations or volunteers are still most welcome. Donations may be dropped off at our home at 3048 S. Spruce Street or at Alma Jones?’.

Attention Safeway Shoppers! Have you signed up your Safeway Card with Escrip? Escrip will donate up to 3% of your Safeway purchases to the school of your choice.
Presently, Frost Elementary School has 35 members signed up and is receiving $80 - 90 a month. If you have not signed up, please do for this is a great way to help our schools. It is easy go to www.escrip.com ,click new member, enter your Safeway card number and school number .They will ask you to sign up your credit cards, but you do NOT have to do this part. Welcome Baskets ?…
A neighbor recently asked ?“Are we still doing Welcome Baskets??” This question prompted me to ask ALL of the neighbors in MM that if you have any type of baskets to donate ?– please do. This is the perfect time of year to find that great deal on baskets!
We also accept ?“recycled?” baskets. You may call or drop them off at 1031 W. Posada / 831-1525 (Alma) or 838-2993 / 936 W. Pampa (Becky).

Child Safety Classes Continue
The Mesa Police Crime Prevention Unit is offering child safety presentations using magic, puppets and props to teach safety to children kindergarten through fourth grade (ages 5 - 11) and their parents. Topics include:
?· Abduction Safety ?· Self Esteem
?· 911 Emergencies ?· Honesty
?· Helmet Safety ?· Team Building

Clean Sweep Schedule

Examples of ACCEPTABLE items in the Clean Sweep containers: Furniture, wood, palm fronds, old toys, tree branches, mattresses/box springs, BBQ grills (no propane), general household debris (no food waste).
Examples of items NOT to be placed in the containers: Rock, dirt, concrete, block, construction materials, batteries, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, paint, tires, oil, or any hazardous waste.
Thanks to all of those residents who have volunteered to have a container placed in front of their house - let's make sure we have a great Clean Sweep!

Woodpeckers and remedies
Several neighbors have been having problems with Woodpeckers. The question was put out in an email to the neighborhood as to any remedies others might have.
Below are the contributions of your fellow neighbors:
?· First, Woodpeckers are protected both federally and by the State. It is illegal to harm them or their nests in any way. The Department of Game and Fish will come out for $80-85 an hour and trap them.
?· Fake owls can scare off Woodpeckers.
?· Pepper spray that you use on vegetables to keep the bugs away ?– and spray the house. It won?’t hurt the birds but maybe they will find another place to peck. (Possible reason why they peck is because they are pecking for bugs. (Check for termites.)
?· When questions pop up ?– go to the Internet! Try:

All of these companies market products to get rid of woodpeckers (and various birds/rodents that may be a nuisance). There are do-it-yourself control supplies such as repellents, noise makers, paints, and misc. items that will not harm the ''pest'' but make your property less appealing for them.
?· Use tanglefoot spray ?… it's a clear sticky spray that you can use anyplace. The birds and other critters don't like sticky feet!
?· From my experience back east, where Woodpeckers are a real nuisance, they are pecking at the house because the house has some kind of bugs they are after. I'd check with an exterminator.
?· The only bird group that I know of that may be able to offer some solutions for living with woodpeckers is Urban Wildlife Society 602-265-2473. There is also Bird X 800-662-5021, which sells all kinds of devises to deter birds. But remember, Woodpeckers are federally protected and stiff penalties apply if harm comes to them.

Neighborhood Notes:
Mary Kleinhans is now a part of our Newsletter Team. Once the newsletter has been printed, she prepares it for distribution and delivery on our 16 streets in MM. Whether it is folding, stapling, bundling, phone calling, emailing, etc. ?– Mary does it all. We have about 23 regular volunteer Newsletter Distributors plus about 10 ?“reserves?”, which she must make contact each and every month.
As you can quickly see, it is so important that once you receive her call or emails letting you know that the newsletters are ready, responding swiftly will help her immensely. If your schedule is too full one month ?– don?’t hesitate to give Mary a call. That way, she can get a backup early.
Mary has lived here for 5 years with husband, Mark and children Cassey and Zachary. She fills her ?“free?” time by working at Frost Elementary School as playground aid as well as xeroxing all of the Frostbites Newsletters.

Denise Jones answered the request from our March Newsletter for a new Ambassador on Plata. She delivered her first Welcome Basket to her newest neighbor there, John Goullet, who is also interested in volunteering. I suspect you may hear more about John and his future bride, Christine.
Denise has lived in Marlborough Mesa for 3 ?½ years, moving all the way from the MM Villas where she owned a condo there for 6 years. She has one daughter, Danielle, who is in second grade at Frost. She is also a Sunday School teacher and helps with the children?’s choir. After moving to Arizona in 1992 from San Diego, she began working for Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Bravo! Bistro
Thanks go to all the ?“special?” Marlborough Mesa neighbors who helped in preparation of a great dining experience at Frost School as well as all those approximately 400 who attended. This was indeed a well-orchestrated event from beginning to end. And Bravo to Chef Hamati! A very special thanks for providing a superb ?“taste of Bravo! Bistro.?”
