Santa will be here soon!
by Michelle Kolar (Peralta)
The time is drawing near! Marlborough Mesa?’s 2nd Annual Toy Drive with Santa in the Park will be held on December 15th from 10:00am to noon. Don?’t forget to bring your gift donation for the East Valley Child Crisis Center children, which is the most important part of this event. Make sure that it is an unwrapped toy. This is the season of both receiving and of giving.
This is a great excuse to get out and chat with your neighbors, not to mention a chance for the kids to visit with Santa Claus and have their picture taken.
We are still looking for individuals to bring cookies and other goodies. Please call me if you are able to help us out in any way at 480.752.2044.
New Ambassadors
Since Pampa is losing their present Ambassador (who is moving to another street in MM), Suzanne & Craig Weaver will be the new Ambassadors. They have lived in Marlborough 16 years on Nov. 30th!
They have 2 children, Caitlin at Univ. of Victoria in BC and their son Paul, a freshman at ASU.
Suzanne is the Regional Marketing Director for CitiCapital doing equipment financing and Craig is a Speech Pathologist with Mesa Public Schools.
They are absolute proponents of the School Tax Credits. Suzanne says this is one way your money actually can go where you want. She was the driving force behind getting Cable America to come across Guadalupe and give Cox some competition. Email: scweaver@cableaz.com.

Watch it Grow ... New Website
The second website for our neighborhood is alive and well. Rick Henry (Obispo) is building it and he requests your ideas. It is NOT to replace the original site only compliment it. It is in the ?“baby?” stage, but being worked on. Location: http://www.mmesa.net. Rick?’s email is animal@sonsoflibertas.net.
The Safety Team has printed Holiday Safety Tips and has been delivered along with the newsletter. It is also online at:
http://www.mmesa.net/ and click on Safety.
New Restaurant in Town
It is Harry's Diner at 2828 S, Country Club (S.W. corner of Guad. & Country Club) at 480-632-0600. It is a small place, but very clean and very good food!
The owners, Chuck & Jenean Brewer, would like to extend a 10% discount to residents in Marlborough, just for mentioning the Marlborough Newsletter.
Their hours are: M-F: 7am till 5pm, Sat: 8am till 5pm and Sun: 9am till 2pm.
The "Curb Fairies"
You have undoubtedly noticed that the ?“Curb Fairies?” have done their magic on your curb. We had 79 volunteers who did all this in 4 weekends ?– YOUR neighbors.
If you were NOT one of the volunteers, please consider making your donation in ANY amount for this HUGE undertaking of Renee Cefalu. The grant money does NOT cover all the costs. She IS getting donations ?– but not enough. We need just a little more.
You may donate either by cash or check and it should be dropped off or mailed (or she will pick up) to: Renee Cefalu, 3064 S. Spruce or call 839-8069 and leave a message. If paying by check, please make it out to our MM Treasurer, Lolita Gates. Thanks to Renee and ALL volunteers who helped with this project ?– they look great!
*Please note that ANY remaining funds not used by this project will go directly into our Neighborhood Fund to be used by future events here in Marlborough that will benefit us all.
Safety Team Now Formed
by Laurel Workman Aslamy (Plata)
We are proud to announce the formation of the Marlborough Mesa Safety Team. The Safety Team is made up entirely of residents from our neighborhood who want to create solutions to the safety problems that exist in our community. Our Safety Team is the first of its kind in Mesa and its success will be closely monitored. We hope to set an example for other neighborhoods of what concerned residents can accomplish when they work together to prevent crime and ensure safety in their neighborhoods. As an introduction, the Safety Team has included a helpful list of holiday safety tips with this month's newsletter.
In the following weeks you will hear more from the Safety Team via email and website as we collect information from our residents to best determine how to make Marlborough Mesa the safest community in Arizona. To contact the Safety Team, e-mail us at: safety@mmesa.net.
Realtor Correspondent
In following along with the already established Ambassador Program, Nancy Borg will be providing a custom packet of information on our neighborhood to any Realtors or FSBO?’s who are selling a home in Marlborough thereby introducing our neighborhood to prospective buyers.
Packet includes: newspaper articles printed about our neighborhood, the floor plan of the home being sold, a map of Marlborough Mesa, Timeline of MM, City of Mesa Property Code, recent newsletter and webpage. She asks that any agent or person interested in this packet contact her at mmrealtalk@aol.com or call 480-897-7749.
Our Last "Printed" Newsletter
There is a bit of nostalgia kicking in ?– knowing that this is REALLY the last newsletter to be printed. During the past 2 years gathering, writing and printing the newsletter has been such a part of my life. I have met an enormous number of people who care so much about others and the neighborhood as a whole that it has been a great experience.
It will be Christmas soon and ?“Good Neighbors?” are actually a gift to us ?– they come in all kinds of ?“packaging?”. I recently had a neighbor tell me ?“we are not very good neighbors because we don?’t get involved much?”. BUT, truth is, these people (and many are like them) are friendly when you talk with them and very supportive to the variety of ?“projects?” always going on in the neighborhood. THAT makes them very GOOD neighbors and we are indeed blessed to know them. So if you have a neighbor that you feel fortunate to have close to you, let them know this Christmas.
The newsletter WILL continue, but only online at:
www.neighborhoodlink.com/mesa/marlborough
If you do not have computer access, please call me at 831-1525 and either a neighbor or myself will print one. If I do not have your email and you would like to be kept informed throughout the month of things that happen within our neighborhood, please email me w/your email address.
Wishing You and Your Family
Happy Holidays and a
Wonderful 2002!
Jim and Alma Jones
NOTES:
1. Warning ?… There is a major mail theft ring! 3 incidents that we know about in Marlborough have happened in Nov. Until you receive notice that your bills are late ?– you may never know you have been hit. Many are happening with the access check mailings that your credit card companies send. You can stop that part simply by calling them. These are not kids ?– they are ?“trained?”. The ones we know about are in their 20?’s. It is not only our neighborhood, but in the Phoenix-metro area. Suspicious? Call police and then report this to our newly formed Safety Team. All safety issues will come together there. They have formed an excellent group, many of whom are in a business position to actually DO something.
2. Watering systems that hit our fences create mold and deterioration. People have asked that you check yours.
3. To be added in Directory of Services: contact Rhonda Merkel at 491-2549 or email HLRKMerk@aol.com.
