As a Citizen of Mesa, specifically Marlbourogh Mesa, I'm pleased the voters of Mesa said ''No!'' to Proposition 404 which would have authorized selling $38.5 million in bonds for infrastructure surrounding a multipurpose stadium(one purpose, football) near Dobson Road and Loop 202 in northwest Mesa. Although the state Tourism and Sports Authority has awarded the stadium to Glendale, it's possible that the deal won't be finalized. Whatever happens from here on in, it won't involve Mesa. The public has spoken and forcefully against it. It's time to move on. In my view, Mesa is already on the map and our major and city council can stimulate some desirable growth in other areas.

Cardinal Stadium - Mesa
In my article on the subject above, the word ''major'' should read ''mayor''. You know spell check is a wonderful thing. Sorry about that!!

It's okay to be passionate...
...but there's no need to lie.
I guess I need to check this board more often.
Jimmie - while I understand your passion for your side of this issue, keep the facts straight.
1. The public wasn't forcefully against it. Most didn't seem to care either way. It was mainly opposed by the people in the surrounding neighborhoods. The signatures gathered did not equal NO votes, they were only signatures to put it to a vote. I know plenty of people who signed the petition and then voted YES. It was just a matter of wanting it to go to a vote. This wasn't the Rio Salado plan which involved a tax and caused people to go to the polls in droves to vote NO. There wasn't much of a voter turnout at all for this election, so it's not fair to say that all of Mesa was against it. It's better put like this: Enough of the people who bothered to vote were against it. A minute fraction of the city's population.
2. The stadium was multi-purpose from the beginning. It was not a football only stadium. It was going to host conventions, concerts, etc. That was the main reason it would not work in Phoenix...they did not want it to be multi-purpose because it would have taken away from the Phoenix Civic Center. If it was football only, it could be built out in the desert and the fans would drive to it...
