GET SOME PEPPER SPRAY THAT YOU USE ON VEGETABLES TO KEEP THE BUGS AWAY AND SPRAY THE HOUSE. IT WON'T HURT THE BIRDS BUT MAYBE THEY WILL FIND A DIFFERENT PLACE TO PECK. THE REASON WHY WOOD PECKERS BOTHER IS BECAUSE THEY ARE PECKING FOR BUGS. CHECK TO SEE IF THERE ARE TERMITE. GOOD LUCK

I just logged onto Yahoo.com and typed ''woodpecker-bird'' in the search field and came up with several websites. Sounds like this bird is a known pest because the informational sites for woodpeckers is sponsored by companies that sell products for getting rid of them. Try:

critterridders.com
birdbarrier.com
birdcontrolsupplies.com

All of these companies market products to get rid of woodpeckers (and
various birds/rodents that may be a nuisance). There are do-it-yourself
control supplies such as repellents, noise makers, paints, and misc. items
that will not harm the ''pest'' but make your property less appealing for
them.

Eastern solution

From my experience back east, where Woodpeckers are a real nuisance, they are pecking at the house because the house has some kind of bugs they are after. I'd check with an exterminator.
