I have talked with the Yes For Mesa Staff with regard to answering our questions here online about the Property Tax and the Sales Tax issues in the upcoming election in May.

Exactly WHICH programs will be reinstated IF the PROPERTY tax vote passes?

Exactly WHICH programs will be reinstated IF the SALES tax vote passes?

There are many programs to be concerned with - mine are particularly:

After School Programs
Summer Programs
Library Hours
Clean Sweep

1st Question Response

The passing of Question 1 and Question 2 will not bring back previous cut programs. The additional revenue from the sales tax would improve some of the infrastructure issues and create enough revenue to attract $585 million in regional funds for more than 50 street projects in Mesa. Some of the projects would include, improving 95 miles of existing arterial streets, constructing 8 new miles of streets, improving 7 intersections, and relieving congestion throughout Mesa. The additional revenue from the property tax will help pay for essential city services such as police and fire. If Question 1 and Question 2 fail, the City of Mesa will have to make more cuts including, eliminating the park ranger program and the parks special events programming, reduce hours or close Dobson and Red Mountain libraries, reduce or close the Museum for the Youth and the Southwest Museum, reduce neighborhood outreach, and reduce community revitalization. Those are just some of the potential cuts going to be made if the issues fail. If the issues pass, there is a possibility in the long term some of the previous programs cut could be brought back.

What happens if question 1 passes but question 2 fails? Will the money be split amongst all the projects or only projects that are linked to question 1.
