HI
I posted this message last night, but somehow it has disappeared, so:
I've always thought it was neat how this community prided itself as a friendly, close-knit family, but some recent actions have caused me to really question that.
For the past two years I have parked my work van in front of my house on posada ave. without problem. I know it wasn't the nicest vehicle around, but far from the worst. Anyhow, I had recently aquired new employment which provided me with a work truck so I no longer needed the van, during which it was parked unused in front of my house. I was cleaning it out and had scheduled it for pick-up from the salvation army for thursday. Before I could accomplish this, one of our great residents suceeded in having it towed two days before the donation pick-up by repeatedly calling and harassing the city of mesa (It takes at least 5 calls to get a vehicle towed). I own my home in mm and also see the need to keep out neighborhood clean and nice, but there is a point where it becomes pure harassment. Bottom line; the van was operational and legal, you screwed a charity out of a decent donation, you cost me a lot of money and HASSLE and really changed my and others outlook on the ''community club''. If you care so much and your so friendly why not try knocking on my door to see what my plans are. If I tell you to screw off then I could see calling the police, but I wouldn't do that so you don't have any grounds. If I had a problem with you that bothered me that bad I would come and talk to you about it, but you probobly won't see me because I mind my own business. Your actions are definitly not appreciated-get a life!!
abandonded vehicles

Hooper,
I'm not sure where you got your information that ''it takes at least 5 calls to get a vehicle towed'', but that is incorrect. It's quite possible that whoever called your vehicle in as abandoned didn't know it was yours to come and talk to you about it, but that's beside the point right now. An abandoned vehicle is a city ordinance violation. How it works is a citizen can call in an alleged abandoned vehicle, the police respond and tag the vehicle with a large bright green tag and chalk the tires. After the vehicle is tagged, the registered owner of the vehicle has 48 hours to ''tend'' to the vehicle. By tending, I mean moving it somehow and displaying that the vehicle is not in fact abandoned. If the vehicle is not tended to, it will be towed per city ordinance.
It is unfortunate that you were inconvenienced, but city ordinances are put in place to keep our neighborhood as nice as it is.

you think?

I personally spoke to the police officer who was sent to check out the vehicle. You are correct if the vehicle is truly abandoned with expired tags etc., but otherwise they first evaluate the situation and if the vehicle legal, nothing happens. Then, repeated calls result in a tag on the vehicle and two more complaints will have it towed. Anyhow, the tag requires that the vehicle must be moved 300 feet, or it will be towed. Would you like me to park it in front of your house (approximately 300 feet) or what? I can bring it there. Just because I don't drive it every day doesn't mean it is abandoned, it was parked directly in front of my house for Christ's sake. You need to get a life!!!!!!!!
And it is an orange tag.
And they did not chalk the tires.
And it was parked directly in front of MY house.
And I have driven it and parked it in the same location since I purchased the house 2 1/2 years ago.
And all of my close neighbors know what I drive and are OK with it.
And I was donating it to salvation army (please read original).
And our neighborhood might be nicer without you. City ordinances or not.
No offence if you didn't call, but I think you did.

By me
response

First, every city has different colored tags, I didn't realize that Mesa's was orange. Secondly, I did call and spoke with a Mesa officer before I wrote my last posting, and my last posting was only for information for you, to help you really, not to cast blame or be accusatory towards you. Anyhow, the Mesa officer I spoke to said that they tag it and they chalk the tires. Why yours wasn't handled that way, I don't know. Thirdly, just because it's parked in front of YOUR house, does not make it YOUR street... it is a public thoroughfare. I did read your original and understand that you were donating it to the Salvation Army, and I said that I understand your inconvenience. The comment that the neighborhood would be nicer without me was just rude and uncalled for, and no, I wasn't the one who called, I have no idea what vehicle you are talking about, nor do I really care. My posting was simply to explain what the city ordinance was, since your orignal posting, I felt, contained was bad information and I wasn't sure where you got it. I was simply trying to help you, but apparently you were offended by that. Why the officer handled your vehicle the way he/she did, I have no clue. The information I got that I put in my posting was from a Mesa officer too. Apparently the one who handled your vehicle used his/her discretion. Think what you want.
