FYI - In the 1000 block of Peralta on Feb. 24th sometime between 8:00 pm and 8:00 am the next morning our Nissan Maxima was stolen from our driveway. It was locked and had an alarm. It is an old car (1989) and really has no value. It may as well have been in broad daylight since we have two double motion sensor lights above our garage and our next door neighbor's motion light comes on when someone is in our driveway.
On the morning of New Year's Eve (12/31)we had an appraiser at our house. He was in our house no longer than 20 minutes. When he went outside to leave, his Honda Accord was gone. Someone stole his car while he was inside our house for the appraisal. In this instance I had a hard time feeling sorry for him as he left his keys in his car. (Of course his stolen car didn't reflect to kindly on our appraisal.)
At the end of 2003 our next door neighbors sister's Ford Explorer was stolen out of their driveway when she was visiting from California.
That is three cars stolen from two houses in a very short period of time. I have read about several other cars in MM that have been stolen in the past few months. I think it is more than a coincidence. The Mesa PD doesn't. They don't see a connection and told me all three of those cars are easy to break into and take.
We have now had a tiny camera installed above our garage. Anytime there is motion in our driveway or at our mailbox the camera automatically starts recording into our computer.
By the way, our Nissan Maxima was recovered by the Phoenix PD almost as soon as we reported it to the Mesa PD. The back driver's side was smashed out and they drilled out the ignition switch.
