Halloween

Agreed

I agree, we went through almost $40 worth of candy between 7 & 9. I think we had many more trick or treaters than we have kids in the neighborhood.
I asked one kid what he was dressed up as... his answer, ''Myself''.
Maybe we should just do a community (or street) event for our own kids instead of feeding the kids from other neighborhoods.
I'd go for a time limit also.

Another thought

I'm catching this thread kind of late, but another thought might be to hand out stickers or special bags to neighborhood children/grandchildren etc prior to Halloween to identify children ''who belong here.'' As far as ''kids'' who are not dressed up, it is absolutely reasonable to turn them away! However, if only a handful of houses did so, it would be ineffective. The community could make it easier for individuals to turn kids away by posting rules to reference so they don't feel like a Grinch or Scrooge (I know, wrong holiday). We may need to call it a private party or event though.

For example, ''Neighborhood Nightmare Block Party is for Marlborough Mesa children only. All trick or treaters must have a Neighborhood Nightmare bag, be in costume, and be under 15 years of age. All other trick or treaters will be turned away.''

As a mother of two, I am so thankful for MM Halloweens, because I can be confident my children will have a wonderful time and be safe doing so! It would be a shame to lose enthusiasm and participation in this event. Let's work together to be sure that does not happen.
