It seems like the only way to go. It is becoming more and more clear that we must POLICE our own neighborhood. After the two previous incidents which I posted about here, I called the police to notify them of the problem. Since none of my mail was stolen and I didn't see who tampered with the boxes - the police could not have cared less. If we don't keep an eye on our neighborhood, more and more crimes will take place. We all need to get to know our neighbors, otherwise we may not realize when someone else is messing with their property.

I'll volunteer
Brian - I agree that we need to be proactive. I am disappointed that the police department has not been more responsive. Our neighbors, who had mail stolen from their box, had their order of blank checks stolen. She did not realize that her mail had been stolen, until a homeowner from Olla found some of their mail. I have made copies of Alma's email about the patrol and handed them out to the houses on Portobello. It would be great if enough people would volunteer and we would only have to patrol a couple of times a week each.

Good Information
Tricia writes: ''Please let everyone know that it would be appropriate to call 911 to report in progress suspicious activity such as this as it is a felony offense.
However, theft of mail calls will most likely be forwarded to the Postal Inspector for investigation, but if it is in progress the local police do need to be aware to respond to attempt to detain any suspects. The Mesa Police NON-EMERGENCY number direct into dispatch is 644-2211. That number is a faster way to report delayed suspicious activity.''
Thanks Tricia

patrol questions
1. What will you do if you catch someone red handed stealing from a mailbox?
2. What will you do if you are seen watching, and are chased/attacked.
3. Are you willing to go to court to finger the criminal?
4. Will you use your car for the patrol.
5. If an altercation did occur, and you got hurt or the criminal did, who is liable?
6. What if the issue of mistaken identity occurs, and the police show up hassling the wrong person?
7. Has the Mesa police been involved in any discussion about neighborhood patrols?
